Pros: Great reception and good selections of channels. Loved the menu! Cons: Moving program is not as represented.
We had our first experience with satellite television while we were living in a somewhat rural area in southern Missouri. For 2 1/2 years we enjoyed the service that was provided.
At that time you had to buy the dish, and receivers (I say...
I just got this yesterday installed! Yeah I thought right? NOT in your lifetime. Pull up a chair , sit down, hey grab a cup of coffee you are not gonna believe this.

Pros: The price, reception and channel selection is better than cable. Cons: Customer Service and access to local channels in some areas
Flashback: August 2000
Our local cable company, Time Warner, was having problem after problem. Half the time, our reception was fuzzy, the sound was static and the pay per view movies wouldn't play. We would order a movie, but there would be no...
Pros: About 150 channels more than my cable service and excellent picture Cons: Slow to change channels; sometimes signal gets lost
I am no technology expert and I can barely spell the word satellite. But I am confident of one thing - the dish television service I recently purchased is far and away superior to Cox Cable's pathetic service.
Pros: Great shows, educational channels, lots of variety. FOX NEWS! Cons: Bad reception during inclement weather, reception hiccups during good weather, deplorable customer service
... I can't seem to fathom not being without satellite TV. Yes, that's right. I am a satellite TV junkie! Before satellite, I had to suffer through fuzzy reception and channels that had tantrums and wouldn't come in when I wanted them to. Living in the ...
Pros: PERFECT Reception and SOUND! Warranty! Cons: Watch the install guy.
If you’ve read any of my others, you know what I mean. Now on to the review. I just had the Dish 500 installed and the dish itself works GREAT! The TV comes quick, comparable to cable when changing channels and there is no snow or FUZZ. I would say...
Pros: Lots of Movies to Choose From Cons: Very Expensive
Dish network provides several movie packages to compliment your basic programming package. I found that for the price, it did not make sense to pay for the movie packages on Dish network. At $121 for each set of stations or upwards of over $400 per year...
Pros: As an upgrade to local landline cable: lots of features and easy operation. Cons: Deplorable Customer service, lies, misrepresentations, hold times on phone, read on!
Dish Network has run a sign-up special in early 2001 and many, many people across the United States have taken advantage of the "deal" to "upgrade" to Dish programming from their local cable or from C-band satellite. The "deal": Free $199 value...
Pros: Channels available, sound, ease of use, price (so far). Cons: Picture quality (for non-HDTV), local channels cannot be customized.
Upon reading some of the other Dish Network reviews here, I almost feel unqualified to write one because I have no great expertise in the field of electronics nor am I fluent in the industry lingo. What I am is an ordinary consumer who recently moved ...
Pros: Clear Crisp Stereo Reception Cons: Customer Service Staff Have Been Given Lobotomies
The following review was written prior to Dish Network resolving the problems in their billing. After several weeks of back and forth conversations my bill was corrected. I still subscribe to Dish Network but have reduced my subscription to their...
Pros: good reception, good price, easy to operate Cons: favorite list limited to 30 channels, almost impossible to operate without remote control
We switched from Direct T.V. to Dish Network because we got a great deal. Primestar had been our satellite provider. We really enjoyed Primestar. Direct T.V. bought out Primestar, so our service had to be changed to Direct T.V. While in the process...
Pros: Tons of channels.
Free installation and equipment!
Affordable prices.
Easy to use. Cons: Program guide can lose information.
Query can take up to 15 seconds.
Susceptible to storms.
All satellite systems contain some of the same things: a dish used to receive channel signals, a receiver to interpret the signal, and a many different choices. Unfortunately, not all satellite systems include the great value that makes the Dish 500 such...
Pros: Low Cost, Easy to Use, Convenient Cons: Have to pay for the "Personal TV" service
I purchased a DishPlayer 500 system after two months of research. We recently moved into the country and couldn't get cable, so satellite TV was the only choice since we wanted more than the broadcast TV stations.
Pros: High quality service and selection Cons: Interruption of service in bad weather
I love it. After cable upset me again, by raising the price (again) and offering the same disappointing quality of channels and service, I finally made the decision to buy one of these babies. The Pro's of the service are nearly too many to mention....
Pros: programming Cons: customer service, constant changes in programming and prices
I have had the dish network service for nine months and after continuous problems with the reception, customer service representatives, and actual lies from supervisors, I am doing everything I can to cancel the service and get as far from this company...
What is bad about Dish Network??? NOTHING!!! I had cable tv and was tired of paying the high fees. When cable wanted to go digital they wanted an even higher fee, plus they had no s-video outputs. That's when I decided to switch to the dish network....
Pros: Stellar picture quality, wide selection of channels Cons: No local channel access in some areas, expensive remote control replacement fee
I have waited patiently to write this review because I wanted to be sure I had given the service a good change to prove itself one way or another. I have now been with Dish Network for 3 months and I don't see any reason to go back to cable...
Pros: Digital recording, pause live TV, good satellite service, inexpensive Cons: Very buggy software, scheduled recordings often don't record, noisy hard drive
The Dishplayer 500 is a satellite receiver, digital video recorder, and WebTV all in one package. Dish Network sells this unit for about $200 if you agree to a 1 year service contract. Sounds good, right? Well, there are a few problems.
Pros: Nice reception, good variety of channels Cons: They lie about everything to get you to sign up
I have had C-Band for 8 years and thought it was pretty good. When we received an offer in the mail to switch over to Dish Network we thought we'd give it a try. The deal was $100 off of any programming package, free receiver, free installation, and an...
Pros: It's digital and it looks and sounds awesome Cons: It's not free
I have been a subscriber to Dish Network (DN) for over 2 years... back when I signed up, they had only 40 channels. Now they have expanded to over 150 and show no signs of stopping! In addition to those standard channels, you have the option of choosing...
Pros: lots of programs Cons: terrible customer support
I have been a Dish Network subscriber for nearly three years. In that time I have gone from being delighted with the new range and quality of programming to being extremely frustrated with the way the company handles me as a customer. My primary...
Pros: fun for a while.. Cons: too many for this little space!
Dish Network was supposed to be an answer for all our television needs. Boy were we wrong! Now begins the tale our our hassles with DISH Network and their poor service!
DISH was great, for awhile. Difficult to set up if you don't have a...
Pros: none really Cons: tech service, price vs cable
Just over a year ago I moved from my apartment to a house of my very own. I was getting everything arranged when I got a flier for Dish Network that convinced me to give it a try. I basically got a free satellite and receiver for a year contract. Here...
Pros: The Pause Feature is Great! Cons: Maybe not quite as clear a picture as the other receiver.
We just upgraded to a better receiver? Maybe. As stated before, I like the pause feature and recording. Just saw a great scene in a movie...wanna see it again...presto, chango...there it is. And again, and again! Call the kids in to the room.."Hey Kids,...
Pros: Better reception and selection than cable Cons: Too many events blacked out on sports package
After having Time-Warner Cable for a number of years, we have cut the cable in favor of Dish Network and a satellite. For the most part the cable reception was OK, but there was once channel that rarely came in very clear. My main complaint with cable...
Pros: good value Cons: avoid automatic bill payment
Update May 20, 2007 I've now had DISH Network for over 7 years. I'm still very happy. Programming costs have increased. I'm now paying $58 a month for 250+ channels including the locals and $15 for HBO. Still cheaper than local cable. ...
Pros: New Systems, great reception, excellent customer service, and more channels Cons: need a phone line
OK, we have all heard the ads. Dish Network is truly the best entertainment value around. I know this because I have worked with them for two years. The last eight months I did installations for them. So I may seem biased but its the truth.
The...
Pros: Great Service. Great Options. Great Customer Service. Satisfaction Guarenteed. Cons: Sometimes May Lose A Signal In Bad Weather.
I've only had Dish for a few months but......... no, wait I take that back. I first started with Dish, went to DirectTv then to VOOM( thank god it's dead) then back to Dish which is what I have now and I must say I'm enjoying it. Let me tell you why. ...
Pros: great picture, remotes easy to use, "could" use cable lines, programming is cheap. Cons: PPV mistakingly ordered channels suddenly not there, customer service so-so, they do lie.
We were tired of paying Adelphia $130 a month for cable that gave us maybe 60 channels, most of which show the same crap day after day. We looked at this DISH Network and it looked like a great deal for the money. I called DISH to verify everything I was ...
Pros: pause live tv pretty sweet Cons: I only have 15 words...read the review
This is honestly the first time that I have been upset enough to seek out and post a review of a product/service. My wife and I went a year and a half without T.V. We live in a rural area and are only able to pick up one channel consistently with an ...
Pros: UPN is available Cons: Customer Service is HORRIBLE
My husband is an avid Star Trek fan. Last year he saw there was a new series Enterprise coming out on UPN. Our cable company doesn't offer it and so we looked into satellites that do. Unfortunately for us Dish Network was the only one.
Pros: Better than a rabbit ear antenna, but not much! Cons: Worst customer service support of ANY company.
The absolute worst customer service in the industry. Equipment barely outlives the warranty. The Dish Network system cost me over $700.00 a couple of years ago, and I have since had three receivers go out. Today, you can get the same equipment from...
Pros: Good picture, prices of programming comparable to C-Band Cons: Worst Customer Service I have ever had to deal with
I got my Dish 500 installed on May 18, 2002. I was told that I would save $100 by paying for 1 year of programming with a major credit card. When I received my credit card statement on 6-17-02 I was charged for the entire amount $510.88 ($451.00 for...
I decided to get the Dish Network because of very poor cable tv service and high package prices. For the same amount of money I am getting more than twice the channel lineup I had with cable. The dish and receiver were free (after rebate) as was the...
Pros: Great reception, lots of package options Cons: Customer service
We had our Dish Network installed right after we moved into our new house in November of 2000. We have had very few problems. The installer was quite late for our appointment, but we didn't have any plans that night anyway.
Pros: All the channels Cons: Billing and customer service stink
I have been a Dish Network subscriber for four years. I enjoy the channel selection but would probably change services except for the startup cost to change. Dish offers many sign on incentives but does not pass the savings on to existing customers...
Pros: PAUSE, RECORD, REWIND live TV! Hands-down worth the money for this receiver! Cons: Customer service, periodically need to reset system (1x/month)
I must say, THE best feature of this unit is hands-down the hard-drive recording DVR (Digital Video Recorder)
PAUSE live TV: can pause for up to 30 minutes (buffer), and then resume with delayed-feed, or fast forward to LIVE feed
Pros: picture/sound quality - pause live TV/record to disk Cons: need clear path
After suffering with poor cable system performance and limited channels I purchased the Dish Network system. I have been a Dish Network customer for almost 4 year. The picture and sound quality are nothing short of great. I purchased a DishPlayer...
I was so excited when I opened my present from my parents last year at Christmas. It was a Dish Network Satellite. I had been wanting one for awhile but just couldn't bring myself to spend the money on one.
Pros: Huge number of channels for the price; six receivers per dish Cons: There's still nothing on TV
Unlike the previous reviewer, I can't comment much on Customer Service because I have only needed it once or twice...both times I was on hold (their dime) for about 10 minutes for technical issue.
Pros: On tv menu guide, less expensive than cable Cons: Customer service is pitiful. They are robots with a broken microchip
This is mainly a gripe so let me get the positives out of the way:
The system is reliable, good programming choices, easy to install.
Minor gripe: Dropping an option is $5. I tried the sports package and didn't feel it was worth $10/month, but...
Pros: Good channel selection, good $ deal, and good service. Cons: Too many "music" channels
Dish Network has developed the best option in TV viewing since the inception of Cable TV. Now it has surpassed cable by leaps and bounds with their huge selection of channels. Ever notice how when you used to call a cable company about service problems...
Pros: Good Quality Picture Cons: Can't record one station while watching another - same issue w/digital cable
I dumped Dish Network last week. I now have DirecTV and am VERY PLEASED. Dish Network's equipment is horrible. We previously replaced 2 receivers (1 regular and 1 PVR) and the PVR and 2 receivers already need replacing. I believe the equipment they ...
Pros: Digital Picture, Digital Sound, Price Cons: None that I have found so far.
When I finally decided to ditch my cable television provider I hadn't even thought about what I was going to do afterwards. I had toyed with the idea of just not having television, but that quickly faded... I tried to get another cable provider, but that...
Pros: Digital Cons: very bad Technical Support and Customer Service
This review is more on DishNetwork as company then this specific product.
Bought 4000 and 3000 with multidish and multi room setup. "Professional" installation. From day one gave me problems. Kept getting Multiswitch error, which became constant...
Pros: Affordable, crystal-clear reception, cd-quality sound, cool dish outside! Cons: Lose some reception during heavy downpours.
I am absolutely pleased with our new satellite system from Dish Network. I feel like we are back on the cutting edge of technology. The image is perfectly clear, the sound is CD-quality, the receivers are indestructible, neat remote control, cool-looking...
Pros: Crystal clear Programming Cons: You have to buy a dish and install it , look at it
I did all the checking for months before I made this major purchase when it first came out.I paid $800 complete system still cheaper than yearly cable bill.
What I found was this company was alot cheaper than Direct Tv because with Direct tv there...
Pros: PVR function, can upgrade hard drive Cons: Slow, buggy
Okay, the DISHPlayer (which uses software developed by Microsoft) is proof Microsoft can't do anything right. This unit is SLOW and it's buggy. One of the few nice things is it is the first satellite integrated PVR, and upgrading the recording time is...
Pros: None! Cons: Overcharged, Rude Customer Service, Often scrambles picture
First of all Customer service is a total joke. I was overcharged by over 100 dollars and they said they couldn't do anything about it. They said since it showed on my bill then I would have to pay it or my service would be terminated. They even had...
Pros: less service interruptions than cable
Cons: 2 rate increases in 1 year
I have to laugh when I hear all the Dish Network ads that suck you in with claims of costing less than cable and promotions that give you a lowball monthly rate. Don't buy into it -- as soon as they get you, they start raising the rates and tell you...
Pros: A pretty good dish system. Cons: Not that perfect
Dish Network is pretty good. If you leave it on for a long time, then the television will start to black out and be very annoying. Also after you pay for 10 Pay Perviews you have to call them. I didn't order all the movie channels, only the seven HBOS....
Pros: slightly better than cable Cons: Doesnt deliver the complete 100 channels in Hawaii
Satellite TV is definately a step up from cable. And when Starband gets fully functioning and less expensive it will be great for the internet. Additionally when Dish Network gets the 119 Satelite connected in Hawaii will get better programming. (see...
I had Dish for about 4 months. Recently I wanted to upgrade to the new super dish. The appointment to replace the dish was set on October 22nd. Got a message from the contractor on 21st that they have to re-schedule the appointment to 8-12 AM, Nov 5th ...
Pros: Awesome station line up,cheaper than cable easy to use Cons: Customer Service
I have the Dish Network 500 system and I love it I don't know if it is this excact system but I think it is as close as I can get.Now again I will say that with any satellite system you will get some lost signals but for me it does not happen to often ...
DishNetwork500 sucks. Accurate explanation: I subscribed in July 2000 under the false promise of their REBATE program; AFTER the first 30 days they were telling me (customer service) that I would begin my "QUALIFICATION" period for this REBATE...
no dish dvr for me, please by backwoodsdog ,Jun 16 '06
Pros: Better than a VCR Cons: Selecting programs to record is way ugly.
If Tivo via Direct TV is option, don't waste time with Dish DVR. Dish interface is ugly to use. Tivo interface allows search, then selection from list, Direct DVR does not. Seems minor, but Dish search capability is VERY messy.
STAY AWAY from DISH NET WORK by jituser ,Dec 16 '06
Pros: NONE AT ALL Cons: Dish net work people and company are crooks
after many years using cable television, we decided to go with dish net work. After 2 months the system went down and spent 2 hours on with dish net work tech support. could not get it to work. They said it would be 4-5 days before they could send tech. That was not acceptable try telling that to my kids - no television for 4-5 days. I cancelled and got cable back the very next day. dish net work charged me cancellation fee which was unfair cause they really failed to provide me service and not able to resolve problem in a timely manner. STAY AWAY FROM THESE CROOKS.
I was a dish customer for 4+ years and recently had trouble with their hardware. Each phone call to customer service resulted switching receivers on two different tv's and call us back if it doesn't work. Finally after about 10 times of this nonsense I got a new receiver that worked.
Last week, I had a problem with the signal again that was traced to the cable and had to wait 6 days for the first available appointment, on top of which they wanted to charge a $100 service call.
I decided to cancel my dish service and now they want me to return all of the equipment, which is ok, including a part on the dish itself that is 45 feet high that they had trouble installing or they will charge me $150.00.
The service was good when it worked, but be very careful about what you are getting and what it will really cost you.
Good Equipment But Bad Service by terry_miller ,Jan 29 '06
Pros: good equipment Cons: expencive to install
The only way the installation for a Dish Network System is free is if the installer can use your existing coax cable. There will be and aditial charge for running the new cable, anywhere form $59 and hour to $65 a wall drop (not a tv but cables droped down the wall "could be up to 3 at each reciever")
