X-Ray Security Damaging Film

X Rays DO damage film, but is it a Catch 22??

Apr 28 '00

In case you don't know, the powerful Xrays in airports to check your baggage damages your film, the film is still usable, but it makes your pictures washed out and faded in color, not crisp and sharp. But if youre traveling- is this preventable? I am not very sure, but i think the Post Office or UPS doesnt XRAY the items, that is why you can buy film online, because it is shipped via UPS.

When traveling you can mail your film home or to your destination (may be harder), by sending your film to yourself, but not in a plane. OR EVEN BETTER! Just take the film, out of the box, to show that it is not anything explosive, and request to have the film NOT Xrayed, and if they ask why, just say the powerful X ray damages the film, and renders it useless, they should let it slide, and give you a break. If they don't then another trick would be:

just remove your film from your pocket when going through the metal detector, and once you pass through the dector, just take your film, and put it back in your pocket!! Hows that for an idea!

Well, good luck not getting your Film damaged, or just be modern and buy a digital camera :-)
