| richlt's Full Review: Infinity RS-3 Speaker (Black) |
Infinity won me over with the RS-1s. I was ready to replace my main speaker system. Did I have the same experience? Yes, and no.
The RS-3s have the same sturdy construction as the entire line of Infinity Reference series speakers. Great speaker wire connecting posts and they look nice too! Basic Specs: 2-way, 15-125 Watts, and 40-20kHz frequency response.
The sound on the RS-3 series is much 'warmer' to me than the RS-1. Even more middle to low end response than I expected. Using the same amplifier that wowed me with the RS-1s I put in my Blues Brothers CD again and listened expectantly. They sounded great, but 'different'. I quickly put in different CD's and my impression is that there is not as much emphasis on the treble side of things. However with standard rock n' roll or blues, these speakers rock the house, and can handle higher volumes and bass levels than their younger brother, the RS-1. I now use them as rear speakers in my home theater system. They perform wonderfully.
Bottom Line: Good power handling, same great Infinity sound! Audio equipment is always subjective in its nature of evaluation, so make sure you listen to speakers with several of your favorite CDs before you buy. Different receivers/amplifiers can also make a big difference.
Update 2/1
**After several months of listening, I have upped my original rating. The fullness of these speakers has surpassed that of the RS-1s...These are my favorite speakers!
