| londolarry's Full Review: Sunfire Stereo Series II Home Amplifier |
I've owned the SUNFIRE Stereo amp for about 1 1/2 yrs. I listen to Classical, jazz, newage, world, and some rock music. I bought it because I liked the sound,, style, and the feature , that, it is very efficient. It runs very cool even under load and doesn't consume alot of watts to just heat up the room. I auditioned several amps in this price range, and think it's hard to hear a lot of differences in them, but do like the current source,,, voltage source out puts on the SUNFIRE amp I am running NHT 2.9 speakers which are a little bright and I think bi-wireing them using this feature of the amp, takes a little of that edge off without really adding coloration to the sound. The unit I bought was a Factory "B" stock, but looked like it was brand new and came with the full 5 yr warranty. I did however get a very good price. Being retired, I have my system on about 10 to 12 hrs a day at least 5 days a week. My music sources are the following: CLASSE .5 CD Player, MARANTZ ST17 am/fm tuner, and DMX cable music. I am also using the SUNFIRE tube preamp in my system, which of course has the same cabinet. I have had no problems with either unit, and feel they are of very high quality construction, and expect to use them many yrs in my stereo system. The amp at 300 watts per channel will drive most any speaker, but if you need more , the 6oo watt is available. I have called the factory a couple of times, found them to be very helpfull and they seem to be customer friendly. I feel I made a good investment and this amp is a good value. I recomend it highly.. Shortcomings nondetachable power cord, no on/off switch.....
Shopping hints: Shopping for high end audio, visual equipment should be fun. In the Mpls/St paul area that I live in, we have a number of very nice stores. It's expensive to have nice audition rooms, good salespeople, and of course the demo equipment. I would try to get the best price that you can but don't expect deep discounts on new equipment. If you aren't made to feel comfortable when you enter the store,go somewhere else, enjoy the music.
