My Sony Style Customer Service Nightmare

I bought a Sony digital camcorder from a store and found a note in it which said that if I register
the camcorder online on Sony Style website (http://www.sonystyle.com), I will get 15$ rebate of Sony accessories on this site.
I bought a 8 Mb memory stick
for 34.55$ on 19th September'2000, hoping for the 15$ rebate to appear on my credit card, but after
3 months when the credit never appeared on my credit card, I tried getting in touch with Sony, but their customer service
has exceptionally long hold times ( more than 45 minutes) and I was not able to talk to any of the representatives.
I decided to return the item, because I did not wanted to get it without the rebate offer. The memory stick is not yet opened.
After 4 months, finally I got through 1 of the representatives. She said I would have to pay 25% restocking fee for the product
because they have a 30 day return policy(but she failed to understand that I was waiting for the rebate which they said would appear
after 6-8 weeks and I am returning it now, just because I do not want to buy it without the offer). Also I have to bear the shipping/handling
cost and they have no record of the rebate offer. Most importantly, this was after knowing that
I have not even opened the package for the memory stick.
I escalated this issue 2 levels higher, but the manager was in 'very important meeting' and his subordinate promised
me that he will get in touch with me. That has not happened till now. My credit card company refuses to credit that amount
because the item is still in my possession.
