| GI_Joe's Full Review: MPTrip MP3-CD Player |
I bought this product because I have been looking for the alternative to putting a PC or laptop in my car to listen to MP3s. I waited for well over a year for this idea to surface, and then the MamboX came into play. I waited over 8months for it to ship, and it never has yet. Then one day a friend said that he bought one and loved it. SO i checked it all out and sure enough it looked like what i had been waiting for over a year for.
I bought it from Easybuy2000.Com, it's only distributor. The price was right, only $115 ($123 after postage, US Mail Priority). Ordering was a snap, i used my check card, received a conformation via email about the order and waited only 5 days. It came in a small mailing box, and inside was a retail box for the MPTrip. THe box was pretty plain, not very impressive. I skipped the instruction papers, and just popped 2 AA batteries into it and (tossed the ear buds out) grabbed my nice headphones and threw one of my already made MP3 CDs into the player. I hit play and a few moments later it was happily playing through the 175+ songs i had on the CD. The sound is superb, just like any other portable CD player, nto the greatest, but it was excellent for a portable device.
After playing with it for a bit, i took it out to my car. I grabbed a minijack-to-RCA cable and plugged it directly into my amps. I started the car up and hit play, and in a few moments i was REALLY enjoying thundering sound from my car's stereo system from the MPTrip.
I love this product because it plays CDRs, and not those lame memory sticks and it is not limited to onboard ram. The amount of music you can use with the MPTrip is limitless! About 150+ CD quality songs can go onto a CD, instead of of the 10 or so songs a typical player is limited to. And for trips, just burn a ton of CDs and keep them in a CD casefor the road. One full CD will play about 11+ hours of music. Another thing i loved was the fact that it only cost me $115, instead of the $200+ for just a wimpy 64MB player, and instead i can get 650MB. Oh, it also plays standard audio CDs. The ESP is great, a whole 50secs. I dropped it, bumped it, shook it, and it never skipped. The battery life is average for a portable CD player, 4-6 hours.
The things i hate about it are it's design. It does not have a very good button layout, and the buttons themselves are very small and hard to push. The open button almost feels like it will breal because i have to push it so hard, as do the other buttons. It holds up though. The little window on the top fell off already because i threw it into my luggage and it got banged around a bit, but super glue fixed that. Also the manual is the worse manual i have EVER read. It looks as though it was just text converted from another language by a computer: sentences were all written in broken English. I didn't understand half of it, but the good news it, you can figure most of it out without using the manual.
I think anyone that has always wanted a good MP3 player, but dosnt want to spend an outrageous amount of money on such a small amount of memory should invest in the MPTrip. I will be enjoying my MPTrip for a VERY long time. Go pick one up!
*** Update! 10/21/00 ***
Well, My CD player in my car died, so i wired the MPTrip back into my car amps. It is still working great! The crud has been beat out of it, so it looks pretty ratty now, it is still in one solid piece, but it is all scuffed and marred. One thing i noticed, since the buttons are all chinsy, it is hard to feel out the button layout when you are driving without looking at it. I have it sitting in my lap, and the cables running to the back of my car where the amps are. But other than that, i am still pleased with the MPTrip.
