| Everclear22's Full Review: Proceed Audio Video Preamplifier |
The Proceed AVP is a audio/video preamplifier with stunning performance, great design and unprecedented upgradeability.
This AVP currently ships with processing support for PCM, Dolby Pro-Logic, MPEG2 audio, Dolby Digital and dts. Each surround format also has support for THX processing. The AVP can replace a CD players DAC processing with it's own, turning even a low-end CD player (with Digital out) into a HiFi reproduction system. CD reproduction is crisp and clean and does an excellent job of creating a soundstage with 2-channels.
In addition, the AVP is fully software upgradeable, allowing future formats (such as SDDS) to be integrated without needing to purchase a new decoder. This flexibility means that your AVP will never become obsolete.
Enough of the technical mumbo-jumbo. Let's talk about how this sounds. I have paired this up with Proceeds AMP5 amplifier for my Home Theater system. These drive B&W Nautilus 800 series speakers in the front, and B&W THX SCM8s for the surround channels. The sound reproduction with Dolby Digital and dts encoded DVDs surpasses that of all but the best theaters. This is what Home Theater is about. The AVP processor accurately drives these very discerning speakers creating a soundstage that puts you into the movie. One of the best examples is the DTS encoded Saving Private Ryan DVD. I have heard this scene on other receivers/Pre-amps, but the AVP blows them out of the water!!
If you want a HiFi Home Theater system in your home I highly recommend the Proceed AVP (and the Proceed AMP5). You won't have to worry about buying another Pre-Amp/Receiver in 1-2 years when a new format is released and you will get unparalleled 2-channel and 5.1 sound reproduction. This processor will allow you to get the most out of your speakers, and make you wonder why you would ever pay $8 to go see a movie at a theater again!
