Good Stuff

First off, let me say that I am not a stereo expert. I am just an average person who wants to get the best for his money. I am writing in reference to an older Alpine in-dash CD player that I had owned. In fact I think it was the bottom of the barrel for Alpine at that time. I beleive the model was 7828. None the less, it was still pretty pricey, at around $300. It didn't even have preouts. At this time, all I wanted was a decent in-dash player with some power to run my mediocre speakers and something in which the electronics in the stereo would not die on me. I had a bad experience with a Sherwood prior to this stereo. Well, I looked around for months for just the right head-unit. I heard that Alpine was one of the best, but I could never afford one. I was close to getting a Denon, but I saw the 7828 on sale and decided to go for it. It was one of the best car audio purchases I have made to date. I was not looking to have a crazy sound system, just something that would be reliable. It was not hard to install in my VW and sounded quite nice compared to the stock head-unit. The Cd would occassionally skip, but it hardly ever happened. The LCD screen and the buttons never showed any signs of wear throughout the the years that I owned it. The only problem I had was that when I first got it, I would always remove the face when I was not in the car, no matter how long I would be away from the car. I thought that the radio was more valuable than the car, so I was kinda paranoid. Anyway, after about a year of doing this, I started having problems going from CD to radio. I never had it looked at, but it got annoying sometimes because I couldn't always listen to the radio when I wanted to. Anyway, I could easily live with this minor detail, since the problem was sporadic. I ended up selling the headunit to my roomate at the time and he also really loves it. I fully endorse Alpine products and will get another if need a headunit in the future.
