If you are looking for a home theater system that delivers excellent sound and won't set you back a lot of money, Kenwood has a product for you.
My two college age sons were always complaining about my poor sound system that was a part of my old projection TV. When I decided to upgrade my TV to new RCA 52110 I began looking into home theater sound to go with it (I knew the boys would consider the new TV a foolish purchase without a decent sound system to go with it).
I did not want to spend a lot of money since I had just purchased a TV so I was looking for good sound at reasonable price. The Kenwood HTB-503(newer model than HTB-502) had all the features I was looking for: DTS Digital decoder, Dolby Digital decoder- both AC-3 and 5.1 channel and enough power to deliver sound that would impress the boys.
The HTB-503 scored on all counts and then some. I have been very pleased with the sound quality- in fact I can't believe I didn't do this sooner.
The system was easy to connect to my new RCA TV. (A word of caution here- it did not work with my 10 year old projection TV.) The 600 watts of power delivers great sound in my TV room which is a large room. In fact, when the boys are home my wife continually tells them to turn down the sound especially the subwoofer because she says the sound makes her feel like she is living next to a subway- sometimes the boys actually turn the sound down.
I especially like the way the system automatically knows what the correct type of sound setting should be- something called Digital Signal Auto Detection. This insures that you are using the correct surround sound mode all the time.
The one negative I have found is the remote. It is very small and the buttons are too close together so it is easy to push two at once. Check this out before you buy.
My boys have endorsed this system enthusiastically- in fact my oldest son who has a more expensive system said this system sounds as good as his.
