Koss "The Plug": don't waste your money
Sep 22 '00
Koss’s “The Plug” headphones are designed to sit in your ear and seal out sound with expanding foam cones. They feature a mute button on the cord. “The Plug” is really an awful product. It is nearly impossible to get them to seal correctly in the ear, and even if you can you are required to squeeze the foam cones with your fingers, assuring anything on your hands will end up in your ear canal. Also, the constant squeezing of the foam cones will cause them to disintegrate, leaving tiny foam crumbs in your ear. Also, there is a thin plastic pole that carries the sound to your eardrum, and said pole can poke out of the foam cones and stick your inner ear. If that wasn’t bad enough, the cheap cord constantly tangles, and the hanging swinging mute button can actually drag a ‘phone out of your ear, often leaving the foam cone behind!
In regard to the sound, you could get similar result by putting your head in a tank of water and holding a transistor radio up to the tank. Muddy, unfocused sound, with sloppy boomy bass, grainy midrange and no high end at all. In almost all respects “The Plug” is a poor product, and should be avoided.
