| Mommysan's Full Review: Sprint Mobile Phone Service in Kansas City |
First of all, just take a look at the cities for which this service is listed on epinions. That pretty much sums up the places where this service is at least partially usable. My husband's company's main office is in Kansas City, so after all the advertising Sprint had done, they were convinced to change from AT&T to Sprint. Of course the people in Kansas City love it, because they have enough towers to make at least decent connections. Here in southwest Missouri, however, it's terrible!
I, myself, went into Radio Shack over a year ago when the Sprint advertising started in this area, and was told by them that they weren't even selling the service or the phones yet because they only have 1 tower in all of southwest Missouri. They were adding another one in May 1999, and when that one was finished, they would be signing people up. (Whoopie! 2 towers!)
During the past 6 months the company has switched to Sprint, and even though it's going on 2 years since that infamous second tower was built, most of the salesmen can't get any incoming calls, and outgoing calls can only be made from self-discovered designated areas. (Reminds me of the old days when you hooked up a coat-hanger to the TV antenna, stood like an eagle in flight, and held your mouth just right to get the vertical rolling to stop.) This, of course, meant nothing to my husband's corporate suits...until they became frustrated when trying to reach their salesmen. Finally, after being sent directly to voicemail almost exclusively, they understood that the advertising was WAY ahead of the service, at least in this area.
I'm so glad I wasn't hooked in by the unbelievably low rates advertised by Sprint. I pay $59.99 a month for 400 "anytime" minutes and perfectly wonderful nationwide service by AT&T. Sprint, you can't fool everyone (although from a business point of view, you're geniuses!)
