| goosems's Full Review: General Reviews of Alltel Customer Service |
About six months ago, an ex boyfriend and I got a cell phone. At the time, we both worked at a local outlet mall. The day he got the phone was my day off, so I wasn't there when he got it. He should have known better than to buy a cell phone from some guy walking around the mall trying to sell them. But he didn't, and he got one. The guy made it all sound really great. According to him, we got Caller-ID, Call Waiting, free nights and weekends, AND since he liked my ex so much, we even got the phone free! Sound too good to be true? It was.
To start with, the Caller-ID didn't work. We called our local Alltel store, and they said that the phone we had couldn't "do" Caller-ID. The store told us to come in, and they would GIVE us another (Caller-ID compatable) phone.
Then, we got our first bill. Our monthly bill was not supposed to be over $30. Since we got our phone in the middle of the month, they were supposed to charge us only for half a month. That bill was over $100! We again called the Alltel store, and got the bill reduced to $60. Wow, only TWICE as much as what the bill was supposed to be...
As soon as he signed that contract, the free nights and weekends disapeared. As far as we knew, nights and weekends were free, so that's when we used the phone. The second bill came. It was over $600! Turns out, they charged us for both phones that were supposed to be free. They also charged us for all those nights and weekends.
Basically, Alltel is NOT the one to get cellular service with. They'll stick you with a contract, and no matter how many times they screw you over, you can't get out of it.
