American Beauty...Sports Center...Crocodile Hunter...Young and the Restless....(anything appealing yet?) Well, let me begin by saying that if i were to list all the options one has with this service, you would be here for a good 5 days easily.
We installed this satellite service when we moved to a new house in January. Now, before this point, cable television was but a mere pipe dream, a long-shot chance, a utopian world only written about in ancient texts....but I'm getting carried away. The point is, when i discovered what this service had to offer i could hardly contain myself. The full package was given for one month free of charge and it contained roughly 700 channels, not including the 100 or so movie pay per view channels showing the latest releases for about 5 bucks apiece.
But, after the initial shock subsided, we were left with a moderate package of about 150 channels from which to choose. Most of the specialty channels were lost in teh transition, but the basic cable channels are all there, and there are plenty more to boot.
Being a big sports fan, i was disappointed when the powers that be (i am a mere lad of 18 with no true power in the household) decided to neglect the sports package. However, i found myself increasingly happy with the three ESPN channels, Fox Sports Southwest, and a few extra sports channels as well. SO, all was not lost.
One of the few critiques i have on this product is not of the product itself, but the packages that come with it. Now i enjoy a clever marketing ploy as much as the next guy, but come on fellas...give us a break already. Many of them either leave out HBO, Cinnemax, etc...or offer only those channels as extras. I wish those channels could be included in a better rounded offer, but the service itself works perfectly.
As anyone from Texas knows, it can get a little stormy at times, and there have been a few times when the service was lost, but never for more than a few minutes. Considering the weather, not bad at all.
One of the "security" features of our dish is somewhat of a fallacy. In theory, with one box, what is being watched on the main TV can be watched on all TV's in the house. Now that part is true. When dad watches fishing in the living room, the entire house can relish in his joy as well, without losing the normal, standard TV channels. The fallacy comes in the fact that many salesmen use this feature to try and sell the product on censorship purposes. But honestly, unless Junior has the nerve to watch his nudy movies on the main television, no true safety feature exists.
The option of multiple boxes is offered to allow any number of televisions to tune to different satellite broadcasted stations.
All in all, this is a must have for anyone who watches television. You WILL find something you love, even on the simplest of packages. And if you get brave....you can even get the 700 plus channels of fun.
Go buy it. Trust me, I'm a teen. I know EVERYTHING right?
