| mrnadir2000's Full Review: General Reviews of Verizon Customer Service |
I just returned my Verizon wireless phone. Was the verizon name change a requirement for absolutely pathetic customer service? Here is why I returned the phone:
I got the phone/service at a local mall. The salesguy told me that there was a special which gave me 200 minutes on weekdays and unlimited weekends, all included long distance too. He said that I would be charged no roaming charges if i stayed in the blue areas of verizon's flyer "CON1144" which included upstate new york too. Sounded like a good deal so I bought the service and the phone with a 2 yr contract. Since the contract did not really clearly list the local areas so I called verizon customer service the next day. Customer service told me that only eastern massachusetts and RI and some parts of NH were in my local areas and that I would be charged roaming if I went to Albany NY. So I decided to call Verizon sales and ask them about the current promotions. When I called they said the same stuff as the salesguy at the mall i.e. no roaming in Upstate NY. I asked that same sales lady (Verizon) about my plan that I am on, and she confirmed that I would not pay roaming in Albany and said that she can transfer me to customer service if I needed to confirm that. She did and again customer service told me that Albany is in a roaming area and that my plan would incur a roaming charge over there. I hung up and called Sales again, and again they said NO ROAMING CHARGES in Albany on my plan. Someone was not telling the truth, but who? After 3 more calls, one customer service guy finally realized that I will not be charged roaming in Albany. But 1 out of 5 times wasnt really good customer service. One of the customer service agents advised me to read the terms and conditions on my agreement. The next day, I did and had a question about "Land line charges". I called up customer support and asked them but the guy had no idea how much and when is this charge billed. Not even an approximate amount. I thought I made some calls in 2 days so I asked him what the charges were at that time on my phone bill. He couldnt even tell me that as he did not have that information. I hung up and came to Verizon's web page where I saw "view your bill online" There was a button to enroll in online bill viewing feature. After filling out the form, a page came up which said it will take 14 days for me to get a pin by mail (just to view my bill!!) 14 days were too late as I only had a 14 day return policy on the phone. So, I went straight to the mall and did what a sane person would do - I returned the phone.
I wonder what Verizon Customer service has to say about this.
Personally, I think Verizon is trying to trap people into its 2 yr contract before they ever get their first bill (same thing goes for other cellular companies but atleast they have better customer service).
