DENON AVR-5700-No need to spend 8 bucks on Popcorn anymore!
Dec 18 '00
This thing is a work horse that loves music! I bought this unit about a year ago as a floor model and have had no problems with it. The way the store treats these things if there was something wrong with it mechanically you would know about it pretty soon. I love movies so I figured it was time to throw down for something more substantial than the 1982 Yamaha receiver I have had wired up as my "movie receiver".
I went out and looked at everything. Pioneer, Panasonic, Nakamichi, Sony, The really high end items like Krell, Classe and and B&W. For the price Denon beat all hands down. Though its not cheap it's it's a steal compared to alot of junk out there sold as high end gear and alot of the real high end stuff that may or may not sound any better. The unit has full power to all channels so the rears and center channel get as much attention as the two fronts. The 5 channel stereo feature is cool because you can surround yourself with your favorite music versus sitting in front of two perfectly aligned speakers. Each channel has it's own Burr-Brown 24 bit Dac and the unit is THX Ultra certified meaning that the power etc. can perform as the THX lab wants it too when their movies are played, which means loud, clean, and clear no hiccups!
The next generation of movies promises 7 channels, though the newer 4800 model has the 2 extra already powered the AVR-5700 has 2 outputs ready for an external amp to take on the task. To sum everything up this unit is awesome, very heavy, very stable, and since it's "older technology" very affordable.
