| kki000's Full Review: Definitive Technology ProCinema 100 |
This review is actually for the Pro Cinema 80.6 package. The center channel is identical to the 100 and the performance is similar as well. (I auditioned the 100 as well before I bought) The 80s though were a much better deal especially for the size of my room. 10x12 room with my real listenable or hometheater area of 10x8 or so. To begin with, I am not a super audiophile; I just know good fidelity when I hear it. Of all the packages I’ve checked out, Klipsch Micro Quintet, a Polk Audio package and my friend's NHT's, this was the best sounding, both for music and movies. To start the 250 watt subwoofer in the package is amazing. You won't find a 250 watt amp in any sub in this price category and you can FEEL the results. Bass is not a problem I have, in fact I’ve dialed down the bass to less than half on the sub, but I my room is still filled with earth quaking bass!! The 4 satellites sound better than most full-sized tower speakers (including my friends NHT's!!) In 2 channel stereo, the clarity and resolution is amazing. If anything the center channel is possibly to only weak link. I had to boost the db level (on my receiver, a denon 2800) to get clearer dialogue from the center channel. So now dialogue and sound effects through the center channel sound alot better. (I’m currently looking at a definitive c/l/r 2800 as a possible upgrade though.)
I bought mine for 850 from a local dealer. My only regret is the center channel. If you can, upgrade to the c2, it'll still come in at under 1 thousand if you haggle. This is an incredible system that not only sounds great, but also is also very easy to integrate into any HT due to its size. Also these definitive are completely matched as far as tonality goes. The effects that pan from front to back and across the center channel are completely seamless. You don't get those audible tone changes that appear when you arbitrarily mix and match speakers from different manufacturers.
I looked long and hard for a HT setup for a reasonable price. If you're in the same boat, stop looking, you're wasting your time!! There is absolutely NOTHING under a thousand that sounds better.
