| kyte50's Full Review: Nokia 3210 GSM Cellular Phone |
I have to say up front: I love this phone. But that has nothing to do with the games, the interchangeable faces, the ringtones or any of the other glitz which comes with the phone.
I was looking for a replacement for my 5110 (5190 for those of you in the USA) which is a little larger and bulkier. I am not a small person, so wearing a phone on my hip is just something which a) is uncomfortable, b) is unsafe for the phone and c) makes it bloody difficult to retrieve the phone before it kicks on to the answering service. So I usually have a phone in my pocket. The 5110 kept snagging its antenna. Once the 3210 was released, I knew an internal antenna had to be a boon.
I find the phone easy to use, it charges well, and holds its charge reasonably well (though it doesnt seem quite as long lived as the 5110) and the reception is just fine. Nokia reception is *always* good. (I also had a 1610 prior to the 5110)..clear and uninterrupted, usually, though your mileage *will* vary according to the carrier you use, and your geographical location.
The games are there. I don't play them. If i want to play games, I will fiddle at the computer or with a games console. Having games on a telephone seems to me to be Really Silly.
Being able to change your ringtones is a Good Thing. I am a little disappointed that in the 3210, only one imported tone can be installed at a time. You might be thinking "what the heck is the use of being able to change ringtones"? After all there are 38 standard. If you have ever been in a crowded area, and a phone rings with exactly the tone you chose for your phone, you'll know what I mean. Chances are that there will be several others in the crowd who made the same choice. Everyone scrambles for their phones, from pockets, bags, briefcases...it's hysterically funny to watch, but a real PITA, in reality. Having a ringtone which is yours means you *always* know when it's your phone that's ringing.
Being able to change the appearance is of use if you are into having colour co-ordination between phone and clothing. That's a little pretentious for me. But, if you want to resell your phone in the future, it will be a tad more valuable to a purchaser if you can present them with a phone which isn't all scratched and battered..this is possible with the 3210, in which both the front and rear of the casing can be changed.
In conclusion I would say, if you want an inexpensive phone which will do the job, as well as being fairly lightweight and unobtrusive, get this phone. Its a goody.
