Bell seems to be a good provider in my area. What makes this whole issue hard is that quality of service is different in every area. I have friends elsewhere who swear by AT&T and say that Sprint is the worst. However for me it seems to be just the opposite.

Thanks for the long comment. It is refreshing to get a real comment that has some insight.

I'm in Canada, but your experinces with AT&T have finally swayed me to change to Bell very shortly. What really clinched it was the TDMA vs CDMA comment. I have been looking for a while now to figure out if I should switch (really lousy reception, calls cut off, etc), and now I know for sure it's the right thing to do. And just for the record, I've had a 50/50 chance of getting good service from AT&T. I've had a couple of really helpful people on the phone, but once on the phone, I had "the chick with the attitude" when I needed to change (of all things) my mailing address, and once I went into one of their stores and got the brush-off (and this was when I was going to give them another go, but that experience started me thinking of leaving them). I agree it's all hype, even with the other providers. I guess all one can do is their homework, and weigh up what friends say about their providers. Oh, and definately make it a point when you do get a service, to specify which areas you call more often so you don't HAVE to go through having the number changed, even if the provider pays for it.
