I purchased this camcorder in 1994 and every year since then, the SONY repair service center would have a required visit by me to repair system boards or power problems or auto focus.
This year (1999) however, I was told by the SONY technician that this particular type of camcorder has leaky capacitors and resistors that spill out over the circuit boards which ruins the integrated circuits which requires replacement of the entire system servo SS93 board (part # A-7061-583-A). The cause of this problem is the high humidity where I live; Which in turn causes the capacitors & resistors to leak. It would be better to buy a new camcorder, said the technician. The cost of repair this year is $400. Total cost over the 5 years is of ownership is $653.
Frustrated, I called SONY at the above number and explained the circumstances. Does SONY come to the rescue? Yes, and offers a chance to TRADE-IN the CCDF70 on the following models:
(Analog Models) CCDTRV416- $225 w/trade, CCDTRV66- $450,
(Digital Models) DCRTRV103-$525, DCRTRV310- $625.
A stipulation is that, you must have had the camcorder in for repairs in the last 6 months (invoice or work order # will do) otherwise the trade -in value is less by $100. So just add $100 to the above prices and you can still trade it in.
What was a bleak beginning has turned out to be OK, afterall, part of being a satisfied customer is knowing a good deal when the opportunity is presented.
SONY has satisfied this customer.
