I am still looking forward to enjoying directTV with my new Hughes dish, but DirecTV missed my installation date. They did not call to tell me they were not showing up, yet they had me stay home from work that day since they don't give appointments. When calling to inquire about the missed installation, I was offered no explanation and a new installation date 40 days past my order date and 3 weeks into the NFL season. No discount or pro-rated NFL package was offered and no attempt to get me a sooner date has been made. I have been told to expect calls regarding my complaint, but the date I was supposed to receive the calls has come and gone.
I found several local satellite companies who would install the product for under $100. When I approached DirecTV with this option and asked for a credit to my account against future programming, I was told that they will not do this for their customers and we have to use their installation service regardless of how many times they miss appointments. While I am holding out for a quick resolution to my problem, I suspect I will have to pay a second time for installation if I want to catch the first 3 weeks of the season.
Given their monopoly on the NFL market, it seems as if they can treat me however they want since I cannot get this service anywhere else. I am very disappointed and wish there was somewhere else from which I could get the NFL package.
I have used DirecTV at my parents house and think the channel selection is great as is the interface and additional features (like being able to order all kinds of current movies at the click of a button) are great as well.
If I had it to do all over again, I would find a local dealer who could sell and install the product as DirecTV doesn't need my business and has made no effort to take care of me.
My Opinion is not about the Dish or receiver product, but the service. I have yet to see if the product works well. The service, however, is very poor.
As I eluded to in the opinion, I ordered the product directly from DirecTV and received my installation appointment from them as well.
On a positive note, the dish and receiver arrived very quickly. Had the kept their promise and installed me as agreed, the equipment would not have held up the install.
If you don't want the NFL package or any other premium service monopolized by DirecTV, I would seriously consider looking at DISH Network. In my market, Austin Texas, they are cheaper (you don't have to purchase the satellite equipment or the receiver and they provide two receivers, not one, for free) and they provide 50 more channels for the same price.
