| Omey's Full Review: Toshiba TP 61H60 61 in. TV |
I researched rear project tv's for a full 6 months before I decided which one to buy. The reason I did this is that I knew I really wanted one, I knew that I wanted it to feel like a theatre experience, and I knew there were some really bad rear projection tv's out there!! (Remember the ones bars had about 10 years ago, the screen was virtually black at 45 degrees). I checked out the only name in TV I trusted at the time which was Sony (read on, Sony is not my favorite tv any more!). Sony had several different models, and then I saw the best of the best Sony and it was incredible! What a picture what a look what a sound, what a price!! (about $5500 US!). I learned a couple of things about what Sony, had done, they had a 3DY comb filter, attached speakers, wood cabinet etc. I didn't know what the 3DY comb filter was, but I knew I like it! The attached speakers (including rear) did not appeal to me as I would rather buy my own and the wood cabinet did not appeal because I wanted to pay money for latest picture technology and nothing else. I then checked out Hitachi and they had an Ultravision 'Super bright model', much better price, no attachments I didn't want, but you could still see the lines and 61 inch was hard to find (their standard was 50"). Then I checked out Toshiba, the 61 inch was beautiful. It had the filter, it was in the right size and they had a nifty feature called a line doubler which was quite nifty and clever. Basically it interpolates between two lines and creates a middle line if the action is fast or it doubles the lines of the whole frame if the action is slow, bottom line, what a picture. If you are playing DVD, I defy you to find the difference between it and picture tube. I have actually had it for 2 and a half years now and I still have not come accross a better rear projection pricture technology. The price allowed me to get the DVD player, speakers, high end wiring and 5.1 receiver (all nice stuff) for roughly the same price as the Sony XBR and the picture was just as good if not better. Toshiba, well done.
