After reading a number of the reviews for this player it seems like most users have collections of single songs rather than whole albums that they are interested in listening to. For those of you like me that would like to listen to albums in directories I thought I would share my frustrations about this player.
1. Since you cannot view track or directory names you need to have a printed list of the directories on the CD-R in order to choose the one that you want to listen to. The software that runs this player seems to have been completely thrown together. This may be the result of different engineers working on different portions of the product without working together on the design. You will find the process of changing directories to be a bit cumbersome and that's after you get over the frustration of learning HOW to do it. The printed directions are horrible so I would highly recommend checking out the online FAQs that are available.
2. My disappointment came when I figured out why the songs in the album folder did not play in the correct order. As it turns out the player reads the songs in the order that they were burned to the CD-R. Unfortunately when the burning application sorts the MP3s they are not necessarily in the order that you have named them (e.g. 01 when dolphin's cry, 02 the distance, etc.). Instead you get a CD-R with jumbled track orders within each directory. Well I found that in EASY CD CREATOR you can view the track order so I assumed I could reorder the tracks manually in order to solve my problem. Well no, whenever I have try to do this the CD-R fails to burn correctly. Even if I reorder and unfragment the drive before burning I still get an error. The burning application assigns that chaotic order and I am helpless to change it.
Well all in all I am still happy. I used to have so many gigs of MP3s that basically collected dust. Now I get to take huge amounts of music with me in a small package for a small expense. I love to hate this gadget but then again I am a gadget geek . . .
Points to remember:
1. Do not to drop the MPtrip . . . I do not think it could handle even the first fall.
2. Don't leave your alkaline batteries in it while running the player on AC.
3. When considering battery life realize that the higher the bitrate that you encode files at the harder the machine works to decode and play them. I have standardized at 160kbps.
