I-Jam Player

We’ve all heard about the new technology called MP3’s that has caused an uproar in the music industry. A few companies are trying to capitalize on the craze by brining portable MP3 Players to market. Creative, the makers of the Soundblaster series of sound cards, has released the Nomad. Diamond, a popular graphics adapter company, has released the Rio. A newbie company called I-Jam has just released a next generation player. I-Jam’s MP3 player is low in price, but not cheap in quality, design, and features. For about $175 (with a $50 rebate available), I was able to get a USB version of the I-Jam, which provided me with a fast connection to my computer to download my music to the player. A parallel port version is available for older computers. The player itself comes in a multitude of colors. The one I chose was a translucent blue. The player comes with two 16MB re-writeable multimedia cards to store your music. Each card is slightly larger than a postage stamp and you can store from 15 – 30 minutes of music on them (depending on the quality). You can purchase larger capacity cards. A separate station (included) is used to upload the music to the cards. I just had to plug it in to my USB port and it was ready to go.
The player itself is palm sized and pretty light. It comes with a neck strap and a holster with a belt clip, a very nice touch. The included headphones are amazing, they are gold plated for better quality sound. There are controls to adjust the volume, treble, and bass. When you’re tired of listening to your MP3’s there’s a built in FM radio with favorite station presets. A few other nice features are random and continuous playing of your MP3’s and a light up LCD screen.
I had to undergo some medical tests and I couldn’t get any stations on my regular walkman. With an MP3 player I can download the music from my CD’s with the included software, and listen to them. Because it has no moving parts, there is no skipping in my music. I really recommend this player. You get a lot of player for just $125 after the rebate.
