| msandlie's Full Review: RCA DS2122RD Single LNB DIRECTV System |
I just disconnected myself from cable that i was paying 25 a month for. The pathetic thing about the cable i was using was that 15% of the normal channels were missing like..."E", "cartoon network", and others like "the comedy channel". It started getting to the point where tv was becoming pretty boring, so i decided to price out a DSS "Digital Satellite System.
I bought this one for 100 dollars for the single tv unit, and an extra 50.00 for the installation kit...60.00 at radio shack. (it's pretty easy to install.)
After i was finally finished installing it, i called up Direct TV for service and hooked up to the total choice 31.00 a month package. They also gave me the first 2 months of all the premium channels like the 5 HBO channel's, Skinemax, Showtime, and the movie channel's which i thought was cool even though they do this to get you use to it so that when it comes time they take it away, you want to buy there premium packages... The service from Direct TV was great.. they hooked me up right away, asked me if everything worked and whatnot.
Another great thing about the unit is that (for those of you that have newer tv's) is that they have an S-Video port on the back so that you can watch true digital video.. (my next purchase will be a VCR with an s-video jack so i can record movies at high quality).
The video quality is much better than regular cable, a lot cheaper for the number of channels you get, and UNLIKE CABLE, when switching channel packages, upgrading is free, and if you want to downgrade from a higher package to a cheaper one, they only charge you a 5 dollar service fee..cool huh!
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO BOUGHT THE DSS SYSTEM WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT..(like me) i paid 800 dollars for my system when the receiver was twice as big and got super hot to the point where it wouldn't work anymore. They've really gone a long way in the quality of the receiver and now have the s-video option. The main thing of all is that it's a lot cheaper...Oh, and don't bother with the extended warranty, they charge you more than the thing's worth...
