| MHowe12730's Full Review: Norwest |
The title means exactly what it says. Norwest, now known as Wells Fargo does not want my house. They want me to be able to keep it.
Let me give you a little history. In March, we had a family medical emergency, and both my husband and I were off work without pay for a couple of weeks. Needless to say, our mortgage fell behind. There were several paychecks that had very little income on them. Every time it came time to pay the mortgage, the money just wasn't there. Each month, the lump in my stomach grew bigger as we fell further behind.
I called the mortgage company...a little too late. I should have called sooner, then my jam wouldn't have gotten so big. But I didn't want to call them until I had some money to send them. It was all I could do to keep the utilities turned on.
Last year when we had problems, Norwest gave us a mortgage modification. Not all mortgage companies offer this. What it is, is an addendum to your original mortgage note that adds your past due balance onto the entire mortgage and divides it up among the rest of the months you have left on the loan. That was a big help! We also got 2 months mortgage free while this plan went into effect.
Now what they are doing for us is financing the past due amount we currently have over 16 months. This is called a forbearance. I was afraid that having had financial difficulties in the past they would just come take my house and not want to help me out, thinking I'm just an idiot who doesn't know how to pay her bills. Not so.
Originally, they set up a plan for us to pay $500 extra a month to catch us up on the past due amount. Who the heck has an extra $500 laying around? LOL Not me! I called them, and it turned out when I filled out my paperwork, I was supposed to put net amounts down, and I had given them gross. So "Johnnie" reworked our loan, and put us on a plan we could afford. My house will not be considered for foreclosure under this plan.
I used to work for a mortgage company who did not offer any of these plans. You had to pay your mortgage or lose your house. It took 6 months for them to proceed with foreclosure, but sometimes people really need a helping, concerned hand.
Wells Fargo gives me that helping hand. As long as I own a house, Wells Fargo/Norwest will have my business.
My mortgage company doesn't want my house. They want me to be able to keep it!
