Like its predecessors in the Rainbow Six family, Covert Ops Essentials is a must have game. The realism alone is a good enough reason to buy this game. It ships with two cd's. Disc One, is the Training Disc, which trains you in the art of Covert Operations. Disc Two, is the Mission Disc.
I must admit the Training Disc isn't for everyone. It's a lot like going to school. You read and learn about combat tactics, then you take what seems like millions of tests. But the Mission Disc is very fun.
The controls in the Covert Ops are very similar if not exactly the same as the other games in the Tom Clancy collection. But if you are not familiar with them, it will take a little while to learn.
This game isn't for anyone, the rating on the box is "TEEN", and it should be. Not only is it very violent, it's very strategic as well. Not something your average 7 year old can learn overnight.
The graphics in this game compared to other R6 games are about the same. That is to say, there is a slight improvement, nothing remarkable. So, overall, they're pretty good.
The sound is what you would expect from a type of game like this, the sound FX are a little above average, the music on the options menus etc... are very good. But this isn't a game where music is a big part of the game.
The Replay Value of the game was what disappointed me the most about the game. Covert Ops has Nine all-new levels, 6 of which are training levels that my dog could finish. But I have to say that the three real missions are exceptional. Lucky Snare is a mission situated in a jungle in Northern Bolivia, it's probably the best scenic mission in all the Rainbow 6 collection. But overall, once you've completed these missions a few times, you wont want to play them again, unless you want to finish them in every single custom mission type. Most of which are really boring.
When it comes to Multiplayer, there's nothing fantastic about it, I think singleplayer is better.
Overall, if you are a R6 fan, this is a must-have, if not, stick to games like SWAT3.
