Virtual or Reality?
Jul 02 '00
When playing a violent video game it is critical that one knows the difference between the video game and real life.
If someone is playing goldeneye for nintendo 64 for instance, he must realize that the game is fake and that to kill people in real life would be wrong. If one is not taught the difference between a fake game and real life, he could be not only doing dangerous things that he has seen on video games, but also on other things like tv., radio, and so on.
I believe that some emphasis should be put on how gory and realistic a game is, not because somebody would play it and then just grab a gun and shoot someone, but because it desensitizes people to violence little by little. Like if someone played shoot-em-up games all the time they would be a little more comfortable holding that pistol and maybe firing it because they are used to walking around with a gun. but once again that comes down to if the person has been taught the difference between Virtual and Reality.
