Sifting through a wet sandbox

Aug 21 '00

The main point is starting a band and making wonderful songs that everyone will love to get rich and famous. Think so? Not even close. That, my friends, is the point of being a fake. The point in starting a band is simple. To make songs that the band enjoys themselves, and their fans, whether or not your band gets "rich and famous" I would rather be a famous musician that a rock star.

First, the band needs to have the most important ingredient. This being people that get along and not only like the same kinds of music to start from, but who are also willing to make new music. New music that not only accentuates the music they like, but fresh, original songs that keep the true point of music in view, which is of course, what people like, but not something of someone else's that people already liked and made. Music should not be recycling, but instead, reinventing, refreshing, and most of all, enjoyed originality. Think about it folks, how many people like music that they have heard a million times come out with a new face in a new band? Not very many. New styles maybe, but not the same song over and over until you are sifting through a sandbox of mud looking for that one dry grain of sand to make famous simply by liking it, which is the original purpose of music. (To like it, not to HAVE to buy it).
