"I dont want her, you can have her, she's too fat for me!"

ATTENTION ALL FEMALES! If you can't fit into a size ONE, then you are too fat!!!
No, this is definitely NOT my opinion. But this is what is getting crammed down our throats, even though there is now more awareness of eating disorders than ever! What is going on?
Well, the "lollipop look" is the "in" way to be now. If you don't believe me, then just flip through the TV channels and look at every single female on there. Calista Flockheart (epitome of lollipop), and Courtney Cox, to name just two. If you watch reruns of their older episodes, you will notice a MAJOR body difference. Hmmm....to me, they look a little like aliens. Their heads seem to have ballooned out 3 times the original size, which looks abnormally unbalanced on their shoulders. Not attractive.
Calista says that she is not anorexic. She has been extremely defensive about it. Actually, to quote her, she said that she "doesn't have any issues with food." Well, having had an eating disorder, I know that anyone who does not have a problem with food, would never use that term. They would say something like, "Oh geez, thanks for the compliment! But I don't throw up or starve myself! No way." That is a normal response. "Issues with food" is a dead giveaway that she does indeed have a problem with it.
It is so hard NOT to want to look like the people we see glamourized everyday. Two years ago, anyone that skinny would not have been looked to as a figure to follow. Now it is the way to be. Jennifer Anniston looked great; then they dubbed her the "Fat Friend." Now, she is almost as skinny as the rest of them. We can't help but to look at all these billboards, magazines, commercials, and shows. Even if we don't like what we see, it ends up being the norm, and then we find ourselves comparing our bodies and everyone else's on TV, to those pipe cleaners.
Oh how I wish we could go back to the mentality of the 50's and 60's. When a woman with lots of curves and a little cushion was viewed as sexy. Now she is viewed as obese.
Now here is a fresh piece of news, with a new view of body image: If those TV stars were to go to Africa, they would have an instant rumor being spread about them. The rumor that they had AIDS or HIV. I just read this today, that African women are taking weight gain supplements to insure that they have an adequately padded frame, so as not to be the victim of such a rumor, because weight loss is an indicator of AIDS. Being skinny there has a horrible, negative connotation.
With all the awareness now, we should be moving up on the health and fitness scale. Not down. And I don't know about anyone else, but I never thought a lollipop was a sex symbol...not that you could even eat one if you are trying to achieve that shape.
PS. The title of this article is from a song called "Too Fat Polka" incase you were wondering!
