A Cry for Help in the Parental Community

Jul 12 '00

There isn't just a "disposable diapers" category, so the best category was cloth vs. disposable....which seemed most appropriate. Please do not rate on the category it is placed in because, if anyone has a better idea of where to place this, let me know, and I will move it. Thanks!

This is a gripe to all of the different manufacturers of diapers out there, every single last one of them, and also a plea for other parents! So, if you fit into either one of those categories...please leave a helpful comment if you indeed can offer some help. Or just leave a comment if you feel the same way I do! Maybe we all should have just used cloth diapers and not had to deal with this hassle. Maybe you haven't had to deal with this mess the way I am. If you haven't....leave a comment, I'd love to hear from you.

I have used every disposable diaper that I have seen, in every store that I have been in. I will name a few and tell you my gripe about each of the ones I name.

Luvs: If you have read my other editorial on Luvs, then you will understand why I have stopped using them. They have changed something about the diaper, which, in turn, made the quality of the diaper less than satisfying for myself and for my baby. They leak and they are less durable.

Pampers: An expensive brand of diapers if I must say so myself. I've seen the phrase "you get what you pay for" used widely on this site, but when it comes to these diapers, I cannot agree. Pampers, also are not very durable and have also changed the quality of their diapers over the last 4 years SOMEHOW. Don't ask me what they've done, but in their quest to make the 'perfect' diaper, they screwed up somewhere.

Huggies: We all know the name. We all see the commercials. Definitely one of the more expensive brands. But, I'm going to ask....where are all of those promises?? These velcro tabs, are very easily torn completely off of the diaper, they leak worse than the off name brands, and fall apart easily.

Dryper's: A less expensive brand of diaper, that also used to be more of a 'high quality' diaper in my eyes. They are cloth covered, which is supposed to be "breathable" and they are supposed to pull the wetness away from your baby, which makes they stay dry. Hence, the name, "Drypers". When my baby was around 6 months old, it seemed these diapers were pretty dependable. Now that she is 20 months old, they just can't seem to take a kicking and keep on 'sticking'.

Dry N' Happy: Another less expensive brand, made for us poor folk who can't afford to buy "name brand" all the time. I mean why should we buy "name brand" when are getting the same quality with the poor folk brand? Dry N' Happy, I believe come in cloth covering and the plastic covering. Both are no good. They both leak! And when I say leak.....I'm talking flood waters! My daughter is leaking....sorry, pouring from her diaper in less than an hour.

These are just a few brands of the diapers that I have tried in my household in the past few months. Where in the world has the quality gone? Why can't we get what we pay for anymore? I'm begging any diaper manufacturer who may read this....give us our old diapers back! I have to agree that most newborn sizes are made pretty durable, but how many newborns are peeing like a 20 month old? I can't seem to remember having this many problems when my 3 year old was 12 months, or even when she was 20 months.

Diapers these days are just not made to handle toddlers. Well, what these companies need to realize is that, some toddlers are, in fact still in diapers, and they don't like being wet. And, parents do not like having to wash toddler clothes three times a day, because of clothes with urine (not even mentioning some of the OTHER messes) all over them. Like we don't have enough laundry as it is?!?! Help us out a little! And I don't mean, "send us an email with your complaint!". I've done that, all I get are coupons for diapers that I don't like. Let's see some changes.

For all of you parents out there reading this...help me!! Please leave a comment and let me know of another brand that you use that you like! I've looked around Epinions, and I'm sorry but, more often than not, I see negative reviews about diapers. Maybe I should have used cloth...now that I think about it. Who knows, maybe if I have another baby, I just may do that. Especially if these companies don't stop trying to save money by cutting down on the quality of their diapers.
