Facing Reality

The joy and the nightmare of pregnancy hit me all at once the day I found out I was having a baby. I was not only facing the joy of life growing inside of my body, but the horrors of an unstable relationship. I was 17 and a sophomore in college when I found out I was pregnant. I allowed an irresponsible decision to have unprotected sex take my life on a course I was not ready nor prepared for.
I had no doubt in my ability to take care of a child, but I was not at all ready to face a life changing event. I had plans, goals,and ambitions. Fear fell upon me because I was unsure how to handle change. I was comfortable and set in my own ways while living in my own little world. I was at that time a born again Christian who made many bad mistakes. The problem wasn't knowing that the Lord would not forgive me, but figuring out how my life would turn out and if I could forgive myself.
With the support of my family I learned how to adjust to the new life ahead me and with the Lord's help I learned how to make room in my life to love my child. I let my relationship with my child's father work itself out while I worked on me. Now, through faith and many hard times, I am about to finish my Master's degree, and have been married to my child's father for over 5 years who also gave his life to Christ to be a better husband and father. We face challenges together and know without doubting that everything will be alright.
My advice on pregnancy, is make the best of it. Whether you have support or not, have confidence in yourself that you have the ability to face and deal with whatever challenges come your way. No that times aren't always going to be bad. Plan for the future, but live for today.
