RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
OK, I'll make my request for help simple.
I now and have always used the Epinions site to write my reviews.
I believe this will eventually be a useful tool.
I am however still trying to get the feel of this format. My problem comes when I have a bolded paragraph heading and simply want a double space before and after that heading.
Could someone please tell me what the html code should look like between the last line of a preceding paragraph, the bolded heading and the first line of the next paragraph. Once I have that I know believe I can rectify any future problems that come up.

This is the end of section 1.[br /][br /][br /]Here is the bolded heading after two blank lines.[br /][br /][br /]Here is the start of section 2, after two blank lines.
I was able to achieve this through straight typing in the editor box. Just be careful, when you bold your heading, that you don't include the space that will follow the period at the end of the line you want to bold. (It's a bit tricky - highlight slowly).

Quote: ladyconsumer I've been playing with the "paste from word" button and it seems to work perfectly! You can use bold and italics in your Word document (REAL bold and italics, not html codes for bold and italics) and it seems to translate perfectly.
I'm not having any spacing issues, either.
Consider me a happy camper.
You can?...that is terrific! I will try that next time
Many thanks, |

Don't feel old and depressed, feel my big thanks for helping me. I just succeeded in adding a link between both reviews. Actually that little add HTML code thingy is really cool. Still a bit hesitant to do anything to my write-off page yet, but no new reviews were sent to me today anyway.
:)...Barbara, much happier now than I was last night! Sometimes I over act before thinking...gotta work on that!
Thanks again

This is totally
confusing me, but I haven't tried to post anything yet. Maybe it will become a bit clearer then. My main question right at this minute is when typing your reviews in Word should I leave out the b /b, i /i and a href stuff??
I have been writing and saving reviews to start posting on Tuesday and just wondered what I should be doing right now.
Thanks,
Cindi |

I was wondering the same thing because I always write mine in Word too. I have been waiting to write more also and so I have not seen the new editor.

Yes. Just type your review in Word, using REAL bolds and italics. (Not html tags). Then when you paste it into the new editor (using the "Word" button), it will (should) look perfect. Mine did.

Okay, that is easy enough, but if I want to link to another review, do I just type the name and then will link when I get ready to post? From what I am reading there is a feature that does that. I don't have to mess around with addresses in Word??
Sorry to be asking such stupid questions, like I said if I would have tried it I may have been fine. But I also may have gotten very frustrated and given up. LOL

RE: This is totally
I think the way to do it would be to type the word that you want to be linked (the link's title) in your Word document. Then, after you bring it into the Eps editor, highlight that word, and click the html button (it looks like a chain link). Paste the desired url (where you want to link to) into the field, and hit "insert".
There might be a faster way to do it, but I haven't found it yet.

I think that's the best and easiest way. It's a little bit different than my Yahoo mail where you insert the link and type over the word/title of your link. (Once again, my 13-year-old had to teach me this. Duh, mom!) |

RE: This is totally
OMG. I tried typing a review in the new editor and wound up with two error notices... one opening bold thing without a closer and one closer without an opener.
Fine, I think, I'll just copy and paste it into Word and try out that cute little Word button. WRONG. 6 error messages now.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to get this thing published? |

I've had success pasting from Word. I've bolded and italicized and spaced, with no issues. If you send me your Word document, I'll be happy to see if I can figure out what's going on in your case.

Wow, thanks. That sounds easy enough. That might actually be easier!

RE: This is totally
I got my links to work finally. If there had just been some instructions provided by the site like someone was kind enough to post earlier in this thread - I'm sorry I can't remember who did that, but I am so grateful - I would have been able to get my review finished up fine last night.
I think I am going to go ahead and finish up another review I have almost ready and post it tonight..to see if I have this new thing figured out.
Even though I seem to have gotten it figured out, I don't like it. |

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
Quote: jurgrace In regards to Barbara's post about her write off, I added a couple of links to my write off in the WYSIWYG editor last night and it worked fine. At the risk of insulting those who already know how it works, here's a primer:
If you want to insert Mozarella Cheese to your review:
1. Type in 'Mozarrella Cheese'
2. Use your mouse to highlight the words 'Mozarrella Cheese'
3. At the top of the editor box, there is an icon with two little circles linked together that looks kind of like a chain link. Click on that button.
4. A box will pop up asking for the URL. Paste the URL of the review in there, and everything should be fine.
When you do links in the new editor, you don't have to take out any numbers that appear after the 'www' to get it to work, like you had to in the HTML editor.
For example, I used to have to change www99.epinions.com/content_99999999 to www.epinions.com/content_99999999 That is no longer necessary.
Someone from Brisbane could correct me on this, but I think this editor is still just on certain servers. I had it last night with the 'www99' URL, but don't have it now on the 'www1' URL, so clearing cookies might still work to get out of it.
Personally, I love the new editor and think it's a step in the right direction, if for no other reason than the fact that I can edit it while it's in an 'easy to read' format.
Grace
Edited to clarify directions in original post
I found the post I was referring to in my last one.
Thank you so much for this. I had no idea what I was doing with my links last night and had a huge mess. |

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
after several attempts and a lot of frustration, I finally got my review to post. Not a big fan of all of the huge gaps in it, though. I went back and tried to remove them but no joy on that one.
Thanks to Mona for offering to help me. I'm sure I'll be bothering you again before long. (for help I mean! hehe) |

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
Yes, it's me again. Just have a little more to add then I'll be done..for now anyway. :)
So I went ahead and posted a DVD review I basically had all ready to go. I went back in and put in the bold and italics like you would normally do in WordPerfect. Then I copied and pasted over using the little Word button. The spacing was fine, but the bold and italics didn't carry over, so I had to go back though, again, and add them. I did get my links to work, but I still had some trouble. Doing the links this way is more confusing for me and I'm not liking it. Just my opinion.
Ok. I'm done now. |

RE: New WYSIWYG Text Editor Help Thread
Just a note...
I'm having wonderful success pasting from Word - as long as I take care not to include any end-of-line markers when I bold/italicize in Word. It's actually not so easy to do - Word seems to "want" to include that last character, but highlighting very slowly seems to make it work.
However, I'm working in XP/Word 2003. I can't talk about how it works (or doesn't) in Vista/Word 2007. Perhaps someone else on that platform could chime in?
But if anyone's using 2003, and having trouble, I'm willing to bet it's those end-of-line markers causing it. (It will give you the html error AND mess up your spacing). Just take care when bolding/italicising NOT to include that final space at the end of the line.
Mona
Who's not upgrading her computer for a while, so she can only talk about Word2003.
