Chase credit cart

I was recently the victim of the same Chase Credit Cart. My interest rate went up from 7.8% to 29.99%, based on a fact that I was late with my payment for 3 days. I contact them and the Chase customer service person told that it is in my agreement. I believe it probably was, but on my opinion this is just a legal games. This legal statement probably was written by corp. lawyers and such. But in reality it gives write to a credit company to do what they want with people. I think it is not legal issue rather than political. And it has to be some type of law witch will protect people from credit cart abuse and limit there power. Any idea how to start approaching that issue with US Government Organizations?

CHASE CREDIT CARD SCAM

Chase credit cards are offering low APR transfers that rob you of a full 3% of the amount you transfer. Usually, there is a cap of $75 on such transfers, but Chase lifted this cap without any warning! They must be reaping a windfall since you have to read the VERY small print to see that there is now NO limit to how much they can take. I called them and they refused to address the issue, so I'm cancelling my Chase cards and spreading the word. Even JP Morgan's ghost continues to rob working Americans!

Sounds like a Class Action Suit - any lawyers..

My story is the same as most of you. LONG time cardholder, high six-figure income, excellent credit, don't carry ANY balances. Haven't used the card in over a year. Apparently wife used it when our primary card was changed due to fraud. I never saw a bill - they claim I had approved electronic billing - although I don't recall every doing that. They waited TWO MONTHS to even contact me that I was late. I immediately paid the $2500+ balance in full. They refused to remove the late charges and finance charges (yep, jacked up to 29.99%), so I closed all (6) accounts right there. It was about a $130 hit. I thought we were done, but nope. This month I got a $55 bill with another late fee and finance charges. When I called I was told - get this - "We don't give you the PAYOFF AMOUNT when we contact you, only the current balance"!! You heard it right folks. How's that for deception? And to add final insult to this greedy, pathetic, immorral company's injury, they informed me that even if I pay this $55 by the due date, I will STILL receive ANOTHER bill next month for a few more $$ in finance charges. Oh, did I say final, almost; I checked my credit report. 30 years of green, on time payments and one "derogatory" scar from Chase for being late. I'm so angry I could spit. Isn't there a honest lawyer out there willing to go after these bastards? Surely with all these stories, there must be some way to get back at Chase and the other credit card companies!! PLEASE HELP US!!!!

Another victim

My son was targeted as many first year college students are. They gave him a card with no job. I wasn't aware of his card or use untill sometime later when I saw a bill. He had charged almost five hundred dollars. I didn't pay it for him and he was told to make arrangements with them. He tried after being hounded and verbally abused by their collectors. They agreed to set up an monthly auto withdraw from his bank (at this time now he had a job). He made a mistake and gave the person his account number. They wiped out his account. Now they are sueing him for a total of $3300 plus attorney fees. As a college student he doesn't work full time and doesn't have anything to his name. We are in Texas and if there is an attorney out there for representation, please reply.

I personally have a Chase Southwest card which I am closing out. No more money from our family.

RE: late statement

My problem is not as bad as you all; however, I had an account with bank one which transferred over to Chase. When chase took over they issued a one time checking fee for all checking accounts with balances below a certin dollar amount and failed to advise me before hand. My account with them is to only receive my V. A. Disability checks and towards the end of the month it's down to only a few dollars; anyways, on the very day my V.A. check was to be deposited they withdrew the fee placing me into a negitive balance - that ten dollar fee ended up being $59.00 not to mention the additional fees for overdraft because of the $59.00 they failed to tell me about.

RE: Chase Credit Card Suck

Similar situation happened to me except that I did not neglect to send payment but rather changed my bank account number from which to withdrwaw payment. I did this on the same day the payment was due but late at night. When you change accounts, it actually cancels the payment. Likley providing too much info but wanted to know my case is a little different because website logged all activity -- cancelling old and inputting new -- so it was pretty obvious this was an error.
Chase's contention was "late is late" and raised my rate to 29%. Customer service said "nothing could be done -- no supervisor, no escalation". I asked for address of Executive Office and wrote them with full explanation also stating "long time customer who did not wish to transfer Chase balance unless forced to by new high rate." Executive Office actually evaluates each case. Wrote back within 10 days and put interest rate back to 4.9%. Later send a survey to me asking for input. Customer service is trained to read the manual and say NO but Excecutive Office is forced to look at letters and respond. Hope this helps.

Write your Congress Person

Everyone's story is so compelling!! I know that if everyone writes their u.s rep and senate person we can give a little back to what chase give us--Headaches!!

I have had a similar situation with chase, their lies and theivery. Unfortunately, I have to pay or sink my credit further and chase doesn't deserve that much importance. However what I CAN DO is write my congress person and let them know just how much chase sucks. Include copies of your statements copies of cancelled checks etc. To show your good effort and good faith and chase's lack of it. I'll call my congress person everyday if thats what it takes. Chase should not be allowed to enslave and smoother the American people. We work to hard for our money to give it to those low lifes.

PEACE!

Write your Congress Person!

Hey Everyone,

I meant what I said when I encouraged to everyone to write your congress person. Here is the link so that you can find who that is http://www.house.gov/Welcome.shtml.

Also, make it more fun by sending a copy of your letter to chase. So that they know your U.S. rep knows.

I firmly believe that if we just take the time to tell our stories the way we did in these posting we can make a huge difference. Don't let Chase Bank bully and intimidate you anymore!!! Take a stand for you and your family. Enough is ENOUGH!!

I Hate chase

In October of 2004 we closed our chase credit card account because we did not like the company. We had 0 balance. In the meantime we opened a visa account that we still have and love. Anyway,I had an automated shipment with a company to ship me something every 3 months. The shipment came in december of 2004,the last credit card they had on file was my chase card. Now this card was closed now for 2 months,if the company went to bill it chase should have declined the charge telling them that the account was closed. They accepted it and never sent me a statement until july 2005. By that time there was so many late fees added to it.So we called and they told me they would write it off.Great. Well, a month ago we got a copy of our credit report. Chase wrote it off ad BAD DEBT!Now we have a scar on our excellent credit. So I called and called and called. I spoke with everyone under the sun. They were all Rude and did nothing to help us.I don't know where else to turn. this bad debt will be with us until 2011.Its so unfair.Does anyone know who I can call?Note to everyone Chase customer service is the worst I have ever delt with!

Date Changes, Late Fees, No Bills, Daily Interest Accrual

I agree with above, something needs to be done to raise awareness about Chase Company criminal practices. Like many others, I held a BankOne card for many years, always paying on time, settling the monthly balance, never accruing interest.

Since Chase took over I have had nothing but problems. The most criminal act is that they arbitrarily changed my payment date from 5th of the month to the 01st without notifying me. When I followed up they said that two emails had been 'returned unknown' to their accounts and that my email address was no longer current (even though it has not changed for 9 years) and their attempts to inform me of the date change were my fault. This meant that my balance which was paid on the 5th as usual incurred a late fee of $39 and $50 in interest. When they promised to change the date back to the 5th, this did not happen and I received further accrued daily interest for the 4 days that my bill was late amounting to $29 because the interest rate was raised to 29% (my fees an interest amounted to $118). I have followed up with them and met stony responses from the staff at Chase. I am in agreement with the other reader that bills are going astray or simply not being sent and their so-called attempts to notify of changes is a way for them to make money because the customer bears the repercussions of their deliberate, poor communications. I believe that the practices at Chase are criminal and fraudulent. I plan to pursue this with an attorney and hope that by raising awareness we can get some media attention around these issues.

Chase credit cards sucks!

I too have also had a bad experience with Chase. I got a Circuit City credit card with the 0% for 6 months deal. I have been paying it off regularly and ON TIME. Suddenly last month, I noticed a late charge of $35 on my account. It was charged the very same day my payment posted. I called the 'Customer Service' line and spoke to the rep about getting the charge removed. She politely declined saying it is not the policy to remove fees that were not the bank's fault. I in turn told her that I will be paying off my account in full and closing it. She said OK, no problem. I paid it and just got off the phone with another rep to close my account. There was no apology, no offer to waive the fee to try to keep my business. NOTHING. That will be the last time I do business with Chase.

I've Been Had

Chaulk up another one for Chase Credit Cards. They got me good. 3 years, 2 credit cards, and never a late. I didn't receive a bill last month for whatever reason and low and behold, my interest rate went to 29.99%. I called to ask for some help an was told...Sure, call us in 6-12 months and we will see about lowering that rate for you. Never again will I use Chase for anything.

Chase, though legally correct, is NOT a customer friendly credit card company!

I just got off of the phone with Chase, after having some of the exact the same bad experience noted above - for the second time this week. After my first call I though I would try to speak to someone else in case I just had an uncooperative "Customer Service" supervisor, but all held the same line.

I have had 3 credit cards, a mortgage and a car loan with Chase, all for many years with an excellent credit history. I was one day late on my last payment (one of the promotional rates). Next statement I got hit with 18+% interest plus late fee. I had long discussions with several different "Customer Services" supervisors, and all said that there was nothing they could do, as the interest charges were "non-waivable." I acknowledged that the charges were legally legitimate, as they were the terms of the promotion, but requested some consideration and adjustment based upon my long clean history with them (and my overall excellent credit record), and the number of accounts that I had with them. I asked if customer retention had any importance to them. They simply maintained their same position and said that they could cancel my account if I wished. They would not let me speak to any other next in line manager, but gave me an address to send any dispute or complaint to. I have cancelled my three credit cards. I know that other credit card companies have much more customer friendly policies, including the authority to compensate customers at least in part in such situations. Not so at Chase. They were legally correct, but that does not make them customer friendly, nor a company that I would like to do business with.

RE: Date Changes, Late Fees, No Bills, Daily Interest Accrual

I know how you feel. Chase Credit card company is a tyrant about fees and high interest rates. I have had the same problem with chase increasing my rate from 6.9% to 29.9%. I sent a letter to the executive office to Richard Srednicki who is the CEO of Chase Card Services. He never did response however, a representative from the executive office responded and indicated in the letter that the matter would be handled. How about within the next week I received a letter from an Attorneys office that I was going to be sued for the entire amount owed of $11k. I am really upset about the entire ordeal. I also wrote to Senator Levin, but I have not heard from him (my letters were sent via certified). We all need to put their business in the newspapers and on the net.

Customer Service

In the past I have given Chase/Bank One lots of quality and on time business. Things are different now, I don't have any debt but my account which is now zero balance and unused was compromised and several fraudulent charges appeared. At first Chase seemed to have their act together by issuing me a new card, removing the transactions, sent me a dispute form (which I promptly returned) and assured me they would resolve the situation. However a week later the charges were applied to my new account and when I inquired through customer service they were baffled, they said the transactions weren’t flagged properly and I was transferred to call center in India where I was given the run-around by a non-English speaking robot, until finally I was transferred back to customer service and assured my problem would be resolved. After waiting patiently for a few weeks the billing cycle came around and they sent me a statement due. I pulled my credit report and they are in fact showing a balance due.

I began calling again; I was very calm and friendly; but firm and the customer service staff seemed friendly enough but everytime I was transferred to the fraud department, I was met with long wait times (20 minutes+) unhelpful and in some cases rude staff that seemed incapable of answering basic questions. As of right now, I'm still not sure when they are going to credit me for these charges.. and I don't believe anything they say anymore, they say one thing and do something else. So I have to sit here and worry that their computer will report me as being late for non-payment .. while I'm getting ready to put in my mortgage application (with a different bank of course) .. this is total crap.

None of this is my fault or my responsiblity, I've done everything I'm supposed to and still my customer service experience has been terrible. Seriously?! Who would want to do business with them.

As soon as I'm in to my mortgage, I'm canceling Chase and I can't wait until they transfer me to that nice lady with a pretty voice who will ask .. "but why cancel? we appriciate your business" ... screw them ... but worse, I feel bad for anyone who can't sever their connection with Chase - Good luck all...

The "missing statement" trick

One of the problems I see mixed in this thread is Chase's "missing statement" trick. The strategy: to stop sending you statements, hoping that you will forget to pay their minimum. When you forget, they wait for 30 to 60 days, so that they can charge you late charges and finance charges and increase interest rates. Then they contact you. Their explanation goes either of two ways -- 1) they sent the bill, and cannot help it if the post office did not deliver; or 2) user signed up for paperless billing, despite that user asserts otherwise. Either way, they claim user is responsible for minimum balance even without bill.

This is exactly what happened to me. I had an 800 credit rating. I have a Chase Rewards card which I pay in full every month for years. I got a new Chase Amazon card several months ago thinking I could organize my Amazon purchases better that way. They sent me two paper statements, then stopped billing. It slipped off my radar for 60 days. They called me, said I was late. Said they billed me. I never got any bills. They insisted that it's not their problem if the post office doesn't deliver. "Wait a minute," says I. "The post office selectively lost JUST the Amazon Chase bills and not any of my other bills, including Chase Rewards, for 2 months? Don't you think that's statistically unlikely?" "Our records show we billed you sir."

I pay in full on the phone. Later I call back and find out a different explanation. They said if I paid online, I was automatically signed up for paperless billing. Well, I may have paid online once. Don't recall. Usually I use billpay from my checking account, but sometimes I go into a credit card account and pay the bill from the opposite direction. I decide I don't like this practice and I cancel the Amazon Chase card.

In the meantime, I'm trying to buy my first house. A new construction. My original quote went through gracefully because of my 800 credit rating. When I got within 60 days of closing I got my final quote and my credit rating had been punched clear down to 710 because of Chase. After YEARS of building up my credit history. How dare they! I called them again to ask them to remove this blemish, and they refused. They said I purposely signed up for paperless billing. I told them, "wait a minute, your customer support last time said it happened automatically." So she put me on hold for a minute and then came back and said, "No, online banking said it's not automatic. You have to sign on purpose." "But I didn't!" (Note this is their 3rd story, if you're not counting.)

Back and forth it went. I told her they were costing me my house, and she said she couldn't help me, that I'm responsible for paying my minimums on time. Even if I'm not billed?? How do I know what my balance / minimums are?

Needless to say I'm in the process of canceling all accounts with them. But somebody has to do something about this EVIL bank.

BEWARE OF CHASE!

So I am writing here because I am extremely upset. Last month I didn't receive a credit card statement in the mail from Chase so I overlooked that payment. Then this month I received a $39 late fee. I have never been late on any payments before. Since I've worked for credit card companies before, I know they can waive late fees as a one-time courtesy. So when I called a rep named Jason told me that as soon as I make a payment that I need to call back and they can waive the late fee for me. So after I called back, I got a different rep who said absolutely not that they can't waive the late fee even though Jason had assured me that it would be done. So I asked to speak to his Supervisor and he (Ron Carnell) was also rude and refused to help me and acted like he didn't care about my situation so I got off the phone with him and called back and talked with another rude so called Supervisor (Morgan Pickett) that also didn't care and when I asked to speak to her Manager, she said "no" and said that she has the authority to refuse to let me speak to anyone else. I asked her was she willing to lose a customer over a $39 late fee and can you believe she said yes?!?!? She said I would need to write corporate a letter if I have a complaint so that's what I will do. We will see what happens. I will be closing my Chase account and please spread the word to BEWARE OF CHASE! They have very POOR customer service and don't care about their customers.
