Unless the decision was made without me, I doubt it.

Yee-haw!

OT OT OT

(Warning)

Last night's Big Brother was awesome. Of course, I love the show (I'm a bit of a voyeur anyway) but last night was great. The twists this season really have juiced things up.

RE: Yee-haw!

Oh yeah! The look on Jase's face was a joy to behold!

Back on topic, the chat was a good one. The little speech about how much Nirav had done for Epinions seemed a little odd given that the reason for Nirav's departure was somehow leaked to the media. Also expect that some members might want a more extended discussion on the double standards regarding copyright infringement/plagiarism. Other than that, it was good.

RE: Yee-haw!

Off/T again. Yeah, it was the best episode yet this season! When Natlie walked in, Jase looked like a deer in the headlights. They're so done... I almost want Cowboy to go first, because he's a mindless follower and I have less respect for him than Jase.

Back On/T. I must have missed something(s) because I wasn't really clear on the whole discussion of the double standard. I did agree with Garrett that plagiarism, when it's not word-for-word duplication, is more difficult to prove. When I was a TA, it was tough to get any action taken for even obvious cases of non-duplicative plagiarism. But I'm not really sure how that applies to the situation(s), so I'm just babbling non-sense right now...

The problem that I've heard from a number of folks in the Books section is that Epinions' definitions of plagiarism and copyright infringement are rather murky. Plagiarism isn't impossible to prove in all cases, so why not ticket for the ones where it can be proven? Further, it doesn't make sense to let titleholders get by with things that non-titleholders could never do. Garrett's explanation is that they treat their friends differently than they do strangers. While that's good in theory, I can't help but asking, "Is a friend that lies and cheats and potentially embarrasses the company really a friend at all?"
