Sony DCR-SR100 Hard Disk Camcorder

I'm looking to buy a camcorder, and wondered what people thought of this one?

RE: Sony DCR-SR100 Hard Disk Camcorder

I knew about this camera hadn't done much research. Now that I have, I'm seriously thinkijng about one, it's got a LOT of really neat features that are not tied down by Sony's classic heavy handed proprietary/CP software. I searched for known issues and didn't see any, but did read that the swivel on the screen seems a little flimsy/prone to breakage, of course I don't plan on lifting one of my cats with it, so I'm prolly OK. If you get one, let us know, better yet, write a review!

Are these camcorders available yet?
I have been looking all around for one. I can't wait to try it out.

Your comment about the hinge may concern some but what I read was not that the hinge was necessarily weak but that there was no locking mechanism for the LCD's closed position so that a swing of your hand could snap the LCD screen open and THAT MIGHT cause some grief.

RE: Sony DCR-SR100 Hard Disk Camcorder

I tried to get the screen to open on my SR100 by swinging my hand, but I couldn't. If I had violently swung my hand I suppose I could have cause the screen to open, but I can't imagine why I would ever do that.

Sony DCR-S100 Camcorder

That is good news about the screen. One of the review sites commented that there was no latch on the screen and that it could easily swing open. Maybe Sony fixed that.

Sony DCR-SR100 Camcorder

I've been wanting an HDD camcorder for a couple of years. Last year, when JVC introduced its Everio units, I got excited - until I read the reviews. I decided to wait. Now Sony has introduced the DCR-SR100 and they seem to have done a very nice job with it. If you're not hung up on lots of manual controls, and you're happy with DVD quality video (as opposed to mini DV), this camcorder might be for you. It's not perfect, but for my purposes it sure comes close. Now I just have to convince myself I want to spend that much money.
There's a very good review of the Sony DCR-SR100 at www.camcorderinfo.com.

Has anybody seen the dvr camcorder

that accepts a button camera from mini gadgets?
It may not be a bad idea to have a Panasonic CCD 5MP camcorder for under $200 (why pay for branding) from nadea.com
