Scariest movie ever?
What does everyone think their favorite scary movie is? It irks me how I've heard for so long that The Exorcist was the scariest movie ever made, and when I finally watched it last year I was very disappointed. I wasn't scared by the movie...but maybe it just depends on what generation you're viewing it. My favorite horror flick has always been Poltergeist. A clown doll coming to life just creeps me out. |

RE: Scariest movie ever?
The Exorcist was very scary when it first came out, but it doesn't hold up as well now after we've been bombarded by FX for years.
I agree that Poltergeist was the bomb. That angelic little chickie going 'they're baaaack' will always be in my 'scariest scene' list.
Alien had some serious jumps when it came out too.
I'm afraid the scariest thing I've seen lately though is the election returns..

RE: Scariest movie ever?
I still haven't seen all of the Exercist. What I did catch on tv did creep me out a bit.
Poltergeist is a good one.
Hmm...Well..I did watch Blair Witch Project at night by myself, so that freaked me out a lot. Hmm..can't remember what else right now. |

RE: BWP
I remember being skeptical of The Blair Witch Project, since I never thought witches could really be a scary force (with the brooms, black caps and all). But after going to theaters and watching it, I was definitely spooked after that. |

RE: BWP
I was skeptial about it being that scarey too..changed my mind after I rented it. The fact that I watched it alone at night probably added to that..and I live in the country...are woods very close. So that didn't help either. |

RE: Scariest movie ever?
It's sort of stupid, but I think the movie that scared me most in the actual theater was Pet Sematary. I'd read the book, even, and the thing still scared me. But it definitely isn't the kind of thing that lingers after you step out of the theater.
Well, that's an embarrassing admission. |

RE: Scariest movie ever?
I still say the original Japanese "Ring". The first time I watched it I spent a whole week freaked out by it. It sharpened and alerted my senses and brought back my childhood fear of the dark.
Though having said that it's not my favourite horror film- that would be "The Omen" or "Dark Water". |

RE: Scariest movie ever?
I'd have to go with Poltergeist 2, among others. That creepy preacher has always given me chills. |

Pet Semetary I also thought was creepy (murderous children are always fearful). But, I always liked the sequel more than the first. I think maybe the first was scarier, but I think the second just worked out as a better movie on the whole. |

Scariest movie ever....
....Blair Witch Project. I went into the movie having fallen pray to the hype, and thinking the movie was based on fact. And then was swept up in it, and scared to the core at the end.....lol.... Yes, years later I realize how bad that looks, but it was the scariest movie to me "at the time."

I managed to find myself at the website for the movie a few days before I actually watched it. That freaked me out too. |

Scariest movies...
The ones that stuck with me over the years are The Exorcist, That film just freaks me out! Then there is The Evil Dead. That possessed chick that was locked up in the basement was freaky! Another one that comes to mind is Phantasm, (The Tall Man) BOY...!!!
At any rate, there’s the ones that scared me. They were all when I was a kid too. As an adult, not many have scared me. 13th ghost had some spooky characters. I am looking forward to seeing SAW.

My favorit scary movie was the grudge, I got scared after I saw it. I heard some people got scared by childs play, but those movies did not scare me. I have a house in a neighborhood and in the country but even with a house surronded by woods the blair witch project wasa not scary either..... |

Boring!
Man I gotta say, and don't think i'm trying to insult anyone here but, you guys have an incredibly wussy idea of a scary horror flick. Now I will be honest some people may think mine is stupid but the ONLY and i'm serious when I say only horror movie that has ever frightened me is "The Shining". And really the only parts that scared me were the part where danny is brushing his teeth and the bloody elevators open, and it flashes to those creepy girls, and then the part where you actually see the 2 girls. Lady in the bathtub was creepy but nothin too serious. Key word of all that was "scared". No longer do these or any other scenes in horror movies frighten me. Nothing can send me to that state of psychological confusion when I first saw The Shining. And although I have ranted I now ask everyone on this forum to PLEASE, PLEASE help me find a movie that is actually scary or psychologically disturbing. Not that I have done anything for you people but you all seem to have actually been scared by some movies, I would also like to enjoy this sensation again. And please don't suggest The Grudge or Juon, or any of these supposedly "scary" foreign movies. I was thoroughly disappointed by every single one of them. |

Scary monsters
Halloween is a scary flick, but certainly not THE scariest, unless of course, you're fifteen years old, and you're spending Halloween night at your best friend's house, and you're seeing not only your first rated R movie, but your first horror flick 'cuz you've led a sheltered life, and your horrible best bud decides that it's better to watch said film in a completely darkened room, and he figures out that it's funny to tap yours truly on the shoulder at key moments to make me jump, and then during that really scary part where Jamie is sitting on the couch in front of the open window and the curtain slowly blows and you just KNOW that Michael is behind the sofa ready to slash, and at just the moment Jamie realizes it along with you, at JUST THAT MOMENT, a group of your supposed friends from school shows up to toilet paper your best friends house, and so at JUST THAT MOMENT you hear noises outside, and see shadows on the curtains and Jamie screams and you scream and...NOOOOOO!!!!
I suppose that might make Halloween a scary movie - you know, if something like that were to happen...to someone |

Have you ever seen Event Horizon? That's one pretty good psychological horror flick I can recall. There's one really good scene with the meeting of the wife, which I kind of forget since I haven't seen the movie in a long time. But if you haven't checked that one out yet, try it on for size. |

I think Event Horizon is the only flick to ever give my daughter nightmares, and she was like 16 at the time we saw that one....

I doubt your daughter ever had nightmares. She seems unscareable.
