Now here is something very interesting indeed... based on some information in the appendeces of the book, there's a very low budget, home-grown movie coming out called The Hunt for Gollum. It's going to be released for free around the end of December (or possibly January). Despite the cast all being volunteers and the total budget of the movie being just £3,000, this looks like it'll be pretty good - at the very least, it's going to be interesting! Part of the movie-makers' plans were to show that not all movies are made to make money.

I only realised today that there's a sister production to The Hunt For Gollum - "Born of Hope", being an account of the Dúnedain (Rangers of the North), in the time before the Return of the King.
