Mimi369's Full Review: The Marshall Mathers Lp [PA] by Eminem
I am trying desperately to write this as I listen to the vulgar, violent and sometimes funny lyrics of Eminem's latest album, EMINEM, The Marshall Mathers LP. My daughters insisted that I check it out and write my epinion on it! Well, as I listen to the most difficult to listen to song on the album, Kim, I am darn near speechless!! Kim is a very sick song with Eminem screaming and beating his wife, Kim. I find it extremely disturbing and refuse to listen to it ever again!!
I will tell you that most mothers would definitely NOT waste their time listening to any of Eminem's lyrics. He is extremely profane and graphic. In track 8, The Real Slim Shady Eminem wastes little time pointing out his distaste for boy groups and many other popular performers including Christina Aguilara, Nsync, and Brittany Spears, to name a few.
My opinion is that this young "talented" rapper is very angry!! His anger is spewed forth in just about every track of this current album. From his lyrics I get the impression that Eminem is angry because his mother was reportedly a drug addict, he was raised very poor and he supposedly never knew his father. He feels that now that he has successfully made it in the music industry, he suddenly has a half brother and lots of family problems. His mother is suing him for defamation of character after he sang about her in his first album Slim Shady.
Did I mention that Eminem is a white rapper?? That, in and of itself, poses lots of problems for this troubled young man. In track 11, called Marshall Mathers, Eminem raps about being called a pop star as opposed to a rapper because he has short blond hair and blue eyes. Whoever said that the rap genre is limited to black or Latino artists?
Track 3, called Stan, would have to be my "favorite" song. It is about a warped fan of Eminem's named Stan who sends fan mail and never receives a response until it is too late. The ending is shocking and disturbing, which seems to be Eminem's point to this entire album.
Ironically, Eminem's latest album, EMINEM, The Marshall Mathers LP sold over 5 million copies thus far. Although some people may find his music in poor taste, there are yet others who have found the humor in his lyrics and can look beyond the violence as proven in Eminem's record sales.
Unless you have the ability to sit through song after song of lewd and vulgar terminology, and angry lyrics, this album is definitely not for you. As a mother, I would prefer that my teens listen to other music by rappers like Will Smith or Coolio. I do not like lyrics which demean women by referring to them as whores, sluts and bitches. Eminem is absolutely NOT FOR ME or the slight of heart.
Eminem isn t an average rapper. He s phenomenal. His first set on Aftermath/Interscope Records, already has underground hip-hop heads finding for Emin...More at Buy.com
