| mattjoe's Full Review: USA Today |
USA Today, a nice little newspaper.
Free in many hotels. Not a bad deal.
USA Today is a quick read. Articles are never very long or in depth. One could possibly read USA Today while driving to work. If you live in a city, you would likely be able to read it while sitting in traffic.
My favorite thing about USA Today is, many of the articles are not continued 15 pages later. My local paper does this all the time, so do many of the other big papers. I HATE THIS. I hate nothing more than having to turn 10 or 15 pages into the newspaper to find an article so I may continue reading it. It is inefficient. Then you have to turn BACK to the front, read another article and go find where that is continued.
Finally after you finish reading three or four articles your newspaper is all disjointed, pages are no longer lined up, the thing is folded against the way it should be, and you have newsprint all over your hands. I HATE THAT. Sometimes, the articles aren't even where the continued on thing tells you they are.
With USA Today, this is hardly a problem. Except for a few main articles, all USA Today's articles are tiny and they start and finish on the same page. It's a beautiful thing. If they continue, I only have to turn one page, like a book, not a treasure hunt.
USA Today is like the CNN of newspapers. A bunch of easy to read, quick and to the point articles. If you want in depth, go somewhere else. How in depth can you really get in a national newspaper? It would be huge if you had every article in depth. Instead it is much like a sampler platter of appetizers. A whole bunch of little tidbits from across the nation.
USA Today has a few sections, and they are numbered sort of annoyingly to me. Instead of listing the section first, they list the page number first. For example, the 36th page of section C would be 38C, rather than C 38. I believe USA Today uses their numbers and letters wrong, it is mildly confusing, but can be over looked.
Section A is the main news section. It covers the major events. Normally two of these articles will be continued inside. Also in section A, is the neat little news from around the nation section, each state (all 51) have about a paragraph on some news from that state. A also has the letters to the editor and editorials for and against a certain issue. Turning to the back of A, we get a nifty little picture of the country with the states labeled so I know which is which, and it is the WEATHER map, all color coded. Red means it is hot and to stay away. (I bet you thought I was a moron. 50 states, plus D.C.=51)
Section B is MONEY. Money is a good thing.
Money is about investing, interest rates, and a few articles on companies which are in the news. Also, you get your stock market pages, which are being rendered obsolete by the Internet.
Section C is SPORTS.
Get your C Section. Sports can be annoying. Let us assume you want to see stats of certain sports players. Well, USA Today only runs some stats, some of the time. For example, American League Baseball stats might be Tuesday, and you'll have to wait until Wednesday to get the National League Stats. I hate that. You know what Sports are, you don't need me to go into it.
After C comes D after D comes E. D & E are your LIFE sections. Which encompass Travel, destinations, culture, movies, music, stuff to buy, what's hot now, some gossip, movie reviews, and what is on TV that day.
There is also a decent amount of advertisements. USA Today has a bunch of color photos. This is a good thing, I like color, it makes it much more pleasing to the eye than the black and grayish papers I am used to.
But, USA Today has some very annoying Newsprint that comes off all over my hands. I HATE THAT. Especially in the morning.
