Better than expected

by jagee , Jun 15 '05
Pros: Great audio quality Small form factor Easy Easy Easy
Cons: Requires separate power adapter
I just purchased one of these little Creative Labs Audigy 2 NX units yesterday, and felt strongly enough to write a review as soon as I could. I can not believe the difference between this and even the best built-in computer audio. My Grado Labs ...

Cons: somewhat useless remote, nothing else
To begin, this card is awesome. This card boasts true 24 bit/ 96khz sound, Dolby digital, dts, eax sound effects, thx certification 102 snr and up to 7.1 surround. Some people are confused that dvd audios don't work but in accordance with dvd audio ...

Useful, but a few key faults

by zoldrummer , Jun 13 '04
Pros: Incredible 5.1 sound, supports Dolby Digital. Great for watching movies.
Cons: Optical out is only 2-channel (does not support surround sound)
The Good When I first opened the box to my brand-new Creative Audigy 2 NX, I was undoubtedly excited to use it. Because of my financial situation (college student), I had to borrow three receivers to use with this sound cars(one for front, one for ...

Audigy 2 NX surpasses expectations

by eeepinionsfan , Mar 14 '04
Pros: Great sound, convincing DSP effects, cost.
Cons: My diagnostic menu still isn't being displayed properly for some reason...
I purchased the card and found it relatively easy to set up. The unit came with three CD's; one being an installation disk. This periphreal comes with DSP processing and a large number of acoustical environments can be enabled. Creative labs did it ...

Oustanding external sound card

by thegsrguy , Apr 14 '04
Pros: 7.1 decoding, small and unobtrusive, great for laptop owners, inexpensive, includes remote control
Cons: Requires USB 2.0 for 24-bit sound output
Laptop users always have the problem that they're stuck with the cheesy built-in stereo sound card. Creative answered the call by introducing an external USB sound card, the Audigy 2NX. Simply put, the Audigy 2NX was the best $100 I spent for my ...

Avoid this product!

by mvanier , Aug 23 '05
Pros: The hardware seems to work as advertised.
Cons: The software is broken and uninstalling it doesn't work.
Anyone who buys this product should know what they are getting into. I wanted to connect a dynamic microphone to my Dell Latitude D810 laptop computer running Windows XP (the dynamic microphone won't work plugged directly into the computer's microphone ...

Why buy a new laptop, just upgrade the sound
by mrgeorgef ,Feb 15 '06
Pros: Fantastic sound. Useful software. Runs on old laptop.
Cons: Software taxes my old laptop. External device adds to desk clutter.
I bought this thing off eBay for $70 inc shipping & NYC tax. It saved me the cost of a new laptop. The sound is fantastic. A power user might have some quibbles but a normal person will be amazed.

A nice extra was the included software. I have a Django Rhinehardt CD that was cut from the original recording, including the pops and scratches. One or two clicks, all the pops are removed. Still mono, but no pops.

I am using Toshiba Satellite 1115-S103 with 500M Ram. Virgin Boomtube speakers (regular, not the EX). I believe I have USB 1.0 so this works on just about anything.

They did not skimp either. The USB cable actually has a noise filter; usually only the power adapter does, if anything.

The included software is resource intensive. When I use it with other software running strange things like the disabling of USB drivers occur. My solution: go to "Device Manager" and uninstall the malfunctioning USB drivers, reboot.

It is one more thing I own with a power adapter and cables that adds clutter to my life (they do have a pcmcia card version of this device).

Digital Audio
by fenixmentality ,Dec 01 '04
Pros: Multiple audio "out" jacks, multiple audio "in" jacks, remote, intuitively designed, included software
Cons: Can't think of any applicable to this review of mine.
This sound card is heaven.
homestudio digital djing for a hobby, using mixing software, production software, and simply listening to tracks on my laptop (which is on my desk), I couldn't ask for more.

I can plug my 5.1 surround speakers in, my woofers in, leave my mic safely plugged in, with a stereo splitter I can have my headphones plugged in too.

The reason I purchased this, and part of the reason I'm writing this, is because this card is ideal for mixing using (Native Instrumets') Traktor DJ Studio. The ultimate for digital djing. With four (4) audio "out" channels; Both speakers for monitoring the track playing, as well as headphones for cueing the track not playing can be setup.

Does passthrough Dolby Digital/DTS
by tbyt ,Oct 27 '05
Pros: If you want to pass Dolby Digital or DTS via S/PDIF you can.
Cons: External power supply.
One of the reviews here says the device can't pass through Dolby Digital or DTS signals for decoding by an external amplifier.
In fact it does this very well. You need to set your DVD player software to use SPDIF, and on the 'decoder' tab of Audigy control panel, set 'External Decoder'. Once these are both set, any DD or DTS tracks from DVD will be routed (untouched) via SPDIF.

standalone function
by adychem ,Feb 20 '06
Pros: Dolby Digital hardware decoding
Cons: Dolby Digital hardware decoding
It is a great card indeed, the sound quality is good, but with some clues:
- The audigy nx DOES NOT support Hardware Dolby Digital decoding, but only software, the only HW function is for mp3.
- It can`t operate standalone, when is not connected to PC is muted.
- It can`t be used as an external hardware DD decoder, the optical in SPDIF connection does not recognise DD standard, is just an optical input like line in.
- The quality of DD decoding is is not so good like a hardware equipment as DVD players or DD Receiver, and is not so different as software DD decoding of other Creative sound cards. For that reason i prefer Extigy.
- The DVD audio playback feature is simply amayzing.
