The idea is a great one, but so far, I've had two unsuccessful experiences with purchasing from amazon's marketplace sellers. In both situations, Amazon guarantees the purchase, so I have been refunded. However, amazon won't refund you (even though the failure of the purchase was due to the seller) for 2 to 3 weeks. This is strange, since the charge is made right away. I find this suspicious. Also, watch out when making purchases from "newly launched" sellers...
I'd stay away from Amazon Market Place. I have gotten too many notes from Sellers apologizing for advertising products that are sold out. Of course I get the note after they have money.
Just as one might buy via Half.com, check the seller ratings. Ratings are much harder to acquire at Amazon, and are not as accurate, but will give you a clue if the seller ships late, or if the quality might be much less than expected.
Always read any other information available on the book, as offered by the seller. The book may be a different year, in a different binding, by a different publisher... or, an entirely different book.
Books can be super cheap on Amazon. Not too bad if you want to read a book in mass production.
Sellers, take my advice... If you find your book is worth chump change on the open market, please donate it to a worthy cause in your own neighborhood or ship it to our troops, overseas. Please do not dilute the market, in a battle to list the cheapest book.
Consider it a learning experience, and move on to bigger and better things. Your time is worth more than a quarter an hour-- isn't it?

I am a longstanding frequent customer of Amazon purchasing new and secondhand books from its inception in the UK and during the last 5 years I have placed roughly 900 orders for books and other items. Many of the books were through Amazon Marketplace i.e. out of print items. I placed these orders on the basis that Amazon act as guarantor and will refund my money if the goods do not arrive and,overall,have made a total of FIVE claims for books which have never arrived. I would emphasise I have only made a claim after querying the non-delivery with the seller and receiving no response. I am now advised by Amazon I can make no further claims in my lifetime.
I accept that amazon must protect itself against fraud by buyers but a limit of five claims in a lifetime for frequent purchasers is simply not reasonable. If Amazon allows sellers to offer books via their site then equally they should guarantee refunds for non-delivery on a more proportionate basis.
Item was advertises at a sale price and ordered, but tracking showed it in UTAH for an entire week, I did not receive the item, but back at Amazon the item price increased by 33%. They told me the item was probable lost in transit.
Two weeks earlier an item was ordered as a Christmas gift for a child, the order was held up for a week (mid-December) before I was told it would not ship until February.
I will never buy from Amazon again. Buy.com seem to deliver what you order, at the price you see online, within the time frame promised.

We tried to order a DVD player that they said was in stock, and the ship time was 1 to 2 weeks. Well after 2 weeks they notified us that it would not be available for possible another 2 weeks!!! And it's still listed as IN STOCK on their website. Also as far as Books go if you are looking for the best sellers list yes they have that. If you are looking for some older books, Nope not a chance. Other sites have them. What gives???

Amazon has been quite good to me over the last two years ,It has provided me with competitive prices and great postage costs considering it gets posted half way around the globe.
I would recommend them to anyone who likes dealing with creditable staff and reasonably priced products.Usually find value for money.

Amazon's marketplace combines the easy interface and payment options of it's normal website with the cheap and large product selection of eBay. In many respects, Amazon's marketplace is a very reliable place to shop. Payment is handled by Amazon which makes the safety of your cash a little more safe. However, I would definitely advise against buying from low rating sellers. Low rating sellers are often slow at shipping and skip out on important details to ensure the safety and condition of your package. Don't fret though, Amazon's sellers include many trustworthy, highly rated seller -- a glaring contrast to eBay's scam pool.
The selection at Amazons marketplace is the other high point. Practically every item and definitely every cd and book in there inventory sells for dirt cheap used and are mostly in great condition. I definitely recommend Amazon.com's marketplace shop to anyone and everyone, frugalites and the well-endowed alike.

I buy and sell through Amazon Marketplace and I love the prices. Sometimes a book will be delayed in shipping or sometimes order accuracy is not so accurate, but that it to be expected. No biggie. I typically have a pleasant shopping experience.
If you are one of those people who don't excuse a little error here and there, you would be better off paying full price. But if you have a little patience and see that little errors are worth the money you save.. then Marketplace is definately worth a try.
Overall I am quite happy with Amazon Marketplace and I will continue to keep shopping and selling there.

Amazon.com is fast becoming the central clearing house for on-line ordering from many different stores. In general their product selection, delivery times and order accuracy are excellent. Amazon makes it easy for shoppers by housing name brand merchants under their roof, however, bear in mind that some of the sites Amazon does business for display lesser price tags for the exact same item. Each has their own reduced shipping fees and dollars off deals. When it comes to customer service Amazon has much to learn. If you have a question on a charge or item ordered, be prepared to receive general replies which never answer the question until you ask for someone who reads and comprehends the language, which in my case is English! It is not often that a situation presents itself in which I must contact Amazon, but when it does, my lament is audible.

Having anguished over the selection of a small network enabled color laser printer, I final chose the Brother HL-4040CN.
Next was to find the right price from a reputable supplier. Via Epinions, I visited the Amazon site and found the printer was being sold through an Amazon.com "trusted seller", esellerutrust, at one of the lowest prices available on the internet. I placed my one-click order.
Three days later (several days earlier than anticipated), my printer, which was received excellently packed, was up and running.
I have never had a bad shopping experience with Amazon.com, but even I was impressed with the efficiency of this order.
I've ordered a number of things from Amazon and have had mixed experiences. The great thing about Amazon is that they have everything. There's one stop shopping for you! However, I find that many of my items that I ship with the free shipping take a very long time 2-3 weeks (and yes these are amazon items that are brand new). Recently I just ordered something as a gift, and used the free shipping, and since it was sent by usps, it took a while. Once I ordered a knife set from them (that was directly from them, new, and the only vice was that they were one of the friday specials), however, when I received them they were somewhat rusted. Just to clarify, none of the items that I had bought were used, and all where new amazon items, shipped directly from amazon.
What a waste of time. When I placed my order yesterday Timeslips 2005 software was in stock at a great price and being shipped by Thursday. Today I get an e-mail from someone not even Amazon (their authorized supplier?) saying, so sorry, but we cannot fill your order. Now I will have to buy elsewhere (at a higher price that I was promised) and pay higher shipping to get the software I needed here this week. Never again!
On the site it says I can get a calculator for 62.99 but when I click on the price, it comes up as 89.99 or buy used starting at 69.99. That comes across as false advertisement. Not impressed and will not buy from.

Twice in the last year, the Amazon web site stated the item was “in stock”. After purchasing, a day or more went by and then informed by email that the items were not in stock and shipping date was unknown. On the first occasion, this issue created a problem since I had a dead line to meet and the turn around time to contacting Amazon and canceling the order exceeded my dead line ( complicated by the Amazon web site down for 1 day). How many of us have the time to repeatedly check a web site to see if it is up? So, I took a chance and ordered through another company and canceled the Amazon order at the next available date. Shipping delays met not just days but weeks and uncertain or “estimated”. The second item was not time sensitive, so I waited. No problems with item received. Order accuracy - fine. Customer service - OK, if the web site is up and running. Overall satisfaction - now leery of ordering from Amazon if I need to receive an item on a deadline.

Highly disappointed...I was looking for a particular hard to find item, and came across Amazon Marketplace which had the item I was looking for...and at a really great price (1/2 the price of what I had found at other locations) I proceeded with the ordering about 2 pages worth of generic information given, I never once received a total cost including shipping. I get to the page where I am to enter my credit card information and still don't have a total, I think "something is fishy". I blanked out the information I entered and then found this web-site and all of the fabulous "do not shop here" reviews, I sure am thankful I did not proceed with my CC info. I may have been charged 20.00+ for shipping which would have doubled the original manufacturers price including shipping.

I homeschool and have purchased books at Amazon Marketplace. I found them to be reasonably priced. The site is easily navigated and easy to check out purchases. I usually compare the products prices and if Amazon is cheaper than Ebay, then that is where I go. I also like that you can buy the stuff right away. They also have set shipping fees, so you are never caught off guard with high shipping costs. I have always received my items packaged with care, and in a timely fashion.

I have no clue why amazon.com has low ratings. I have made total purchases in amazon for $4000 - just digital cameras, books, camera accessories, ipod accessories and cell-phones. At no time have I had trouble. Prompt delivery. If there was a problem, they informed me. Rebates -- no problem at all. Just placed an order with amazon.com for 2 items totaling $89.94 and was charged $18.23 for STANDARD shipping. They used to give Free Shipping if the order was over a certain amount - automatically. Now you have to go out of your way to select "Super Saver Shipping" or some such thing. On top of that I was presented with a "summary" of my order which DID NOT show the shipping charges. They showed up on the confirmation e-mails indicating my order had shipped. I will not buy from them again. Buyer Beware.

I've spend thousands at Amazon over the years and have never had a problem. However, in the past year, it seems their distribution network has become less organized and efficient. I often wait weeks now for an order to ship out that states "In Stock". Perhaps customers who use free shipping aren't as important as the ones who pay shipping charges, so we get to wait. I do like that I can on into my account and get an idea of when the order will ship, and for the most past, that information has been accurate. So, for me, Amazon works well. It saves me lots of money in gas (I live an hour from a Barnes & Noble or any other good sized bookstore)and sales tax. Gives me more to spend on books!

I have not shopped at Amazon for electronics, but have ordered many DVDs and books. Every order has arrived in a timely fashion. The orders also have been packaged very well to insure that they reach me in perfect condition. My experience with Amazon was way less than satisfactory. It ended up being a big pain, because of differences between what was on the item description I called the customer service . That was a nightmare in itself The standard shipping cost on dealtime and on the Amazon site were different then what came up when I went to check out my item. The 2 day shipping was a lie,it said that if I ordered in the next 4 + hours that I would get my item on Friday ( I was ordering on a Weds) So I figured that it would be worth almost $18 shipping to get it that fast. I ordered right then And calling customer service was the terrible! I am not crazy about overseas call centers, but especially when they have little idea of what they are talking about. I will never use Amazon again

I ordered a Canon G5 camera on March 28th 2004 through Amazon. They promised to ship it by April 2nd and I would get the camera by April 6 - April 8th.
But on April 2nd, I get a mail/ Online Intimation saying the camera would be delivered only by May 26th.
Hence I cancelled my order and ordered it via BuyDigitalDirect.com. I ordered it on April 3rd, but got a mail asking me to contact them cause they had to verify my shipping address and I called them on 4th
Monday morning and I received my camera by April 5th Tuesday morning. Wow !! What more can I ask for?
P.S. This experience is only with Electronic Stuff I ordered via Amazon. I have shopped for Books via Amazon and they are the best. So, use your discretion between Books and Electronics.

New Super Saver shipping policy of not sending out materials until 4-6 days after order is placed (even for items listed as "usually ships in 24 hours") equates to poor customer service. There is no reason to delay a shipment in a competitive market just because the company promises to ship the item for free. Barnes and Noble, for example, doesn't "hold" shipments that are free, nor do other retailers, and if I go to a retail store, I can get the product immediately without paying shipping costs and thereby spending as much as I would at Amazon for more costly shipping methods. I'll be happy to start buying books and music elsewhere.

Amazon Marketplace provides excellent order accuracy, delivery speed, and availability of products wanted. Since all my orders have been handled accurately, I have had no reason to use their customer service. I am sure it is excellent too.

While my husband has happily ordered tools from amazon, I have had a terrible time purchasing used and out of print books. First, the filters are so poor that it is difficult to tell whether a book is used, new, hard or soft cover; there are many in the wrong section. You basically need to email the seller (and it's not easy to find their contact info) to make sure you're getting what you want! Furthermore, the listings are by title, not isbn, so you can't even be sure you're going to get the correct item. E.G. I bought the music to Lady & the Tramp, and got the book of the same title. It's a terrible organizational system, and very frustrating to shop there.

I sold it, the buyer received it.The product was opened, tried and then sold. It just seemed to be too much work for my husband to get videos on it. So without really using it we sold it. Hence, we know it was in perfect working condition.
The buyer received it, say it did not work the moment he switched it on and asked for a refund. Little did I realise I was forced to give him the refund as he described the product to be not 'as described'. Amazon even stated that the buyer is entitled to a refund, and also under no obligation to return the product.
Here goes my $270 Archos 604. I have no faith in such online marketplaces anymore. Really horrified by these terms since they favour fraud!!!

Amazon Marketplace USED to be a great place to buy and sell third party items. You could usually get a much better price than the auction sites and it was nearly hassle-free. However, it looks like their "big" sellers of electronics are squealing too much, so Amazon has forbidden sales of electronics by anyone except "pre-approved" sellers, i.e., the big guys like J&R. Obviously, they think competition isn't good for their bottom line, so they're cutting us out. Too bad, nobody's going to buy overpriced stuff, so they'll lose in the long run.

If you are wise, you will not buy anything through the 3rd party sellers listed on Amazon. I did, and I was scammed out of $650. This was through a buyer approved by Amazon. When I notified Amazon about the fraud, they wrote me back saying that it was unfortunate, but they had no responsibility in the matter. I would avoid buying from any of these people like poison.
If you decide to do it and any of them ask you to send money by Western Union, notify Amazon immediately.

Great place to both buy and sell! I buy all my school books here, and sold all my old books that the university wouldn't buy back! You make a lot more money selling on Amazon then selling books to a university. I have both saved a ton of money on school books and then sold them for good money. I recommend it to everyone!

Whenever I go look for a good deal online, Amazon Marketplace is the first place I visit. The selections are huge and they sell them for a really good deal. Most of their items qualifies for free shipping when you make a purchase of $25 or above. This saved me even more money.
The best thing about Amazon Marketplace are choices. They have other sellers on site who can offer you a better deal if you don't want to buy from Amazon. Each seller has ratings to see which sellers are more reliable then others.
I bought a couple of items from them before, and the items usually reached my place within 2 weeks using their free shipping option. That includes the time they need to pack it, and 5 - 9 business days for the shipping itself. Please note that the free shipping option only applies to items bought from Amazon, and NOT from other sellers.
Overall, I highly recommend this site for online shopping.

We ordered a microwave oven from Amazon.com. It arrived damaged. Fortunately the delivery man took it back. I notified Amazon of the problem and a replacement was promptly sent. However, it took two more communications from me for Amazon to remove the charge for the first oven from my account. Generally Amazon gives excellent service except when returns are involved and everything in this review applies only to this particular instance.

I've bought and listed things on Amazon and I enjoy it better than Ebay. I trust the merchants more and the products have always been as good as described. Very easy system too, since the shipping and payment are all done and verified through Amazon.com.
I would not ever shop there again. There is no protection against fraudulent sellers sending you messages that look as if they were coming from Amazon and claiming to have an escrow account.

I had started a small business selling on-line. I found that Amazon worked best for me and had sold over 100 items. After purchasing a lot of merchandise a few weeks ago I went to Amazon to list these items at retail. I was informed that I could no longer sell because I was not a "pre-approved seller", and that I could not apply to be seller. I have a BS in Economics, and live in a country that supports free trade. I could offer a better price on the these items, yet THE CUSTOMER IS NOT ALLOWED TO SEE THE BEST PRICE!!! Why?? The big sellers are protecting their profits through Amazon with no concern for the customer. What kind of business is this?? If you can sell at a better price then me, great for the customer! If I have a better price, great for the customer!! Making the customer pay more then they need for an item, the customer gets screwed. Their name should be changed from Amazon.com to Paymore.com!
I ordered just 2 audio cds from Amazon, which were in stock. They gave me a shipment estimate of 1 1/2 months. And arrival for 3 month (4 and a half for 2 cds!). The last day of shipment estimate, i wrote an e-mail. They told me that the products were not in stock, however on site there were more than 15 available. They lost 60$.
I order things from amazon marketplace all the time. It's just like ebay, regular people selling their stuff. However, amazon decides how much shipping to charge so you dont get ripped off by the seller. They do it based on weight. So its like $2.49 for a movie/book/video game. And you can do expedited shipping and international shipping. And sometimes you come across a seller that ships late or sends you a bad product. But the same stuff happens on ebay. And amazon has a marketplace guarantee. So if something like this does happen, you get all your money back (even shipping!). Amazon marketplace is so easy to use and reliable. I feel you dont get as ripped off with amazon as you do with ebay. Great place to shop!! And cheap!!

I have had many problems with Amazon.com. I have bought from Amazon a few times before without problem. Now I am getting many problems. They said my credit card information does not match the billing address, which it does. Amazon requested my credit card information, over email, how is that safe? They asked for the telephone number on the back of my credit card. I send them the number and they state it is the wrong number. It has been 3 weeks from my order and they still will not process it! In the same order I purchased cell phone covers and cases, and they cnarged and sent those, but not the rest of the order. I call customer service and they say they can not help me, how is that customer service???

I was addicted to Amazon over christmas, got all my shopping done with it. However, their customer service department sucks. I really wouldn't shop with them again unless I was really desperate (I would shop amazon before walmart, though...). Delivery is usually right on, although it once took me over 4 weeks to receive a DVD that I had ordered, so that really irritated me. Also, I ordered a video game and they sent me the Gamecube version instead. Of course I was so excited to get it, cuz it was on backorder for 2 weeks, I started to open it right away, and realized that they had screwed up, I asked their customer service dept what to do about it, and they restated the federal copyright policy and their company policies to me. Didn't help out much, so I am saying that their customer service sucks, actually one of the worst I have ever delt with, and I work customer service in retail.

The Amazon return policy for gifts is a joke. If the gift giver does not check the gift box on the order form then the gift recipient can not return the item and get a "store credit" or something like that. The refund goes to the gift giver.
In todays shopping environment all you should need is a receipt and the item to make a return. Not so with Amazon - and this inflexible and unwritten policy (at the time of ordering - you only find out about this when you try to return the item) has cost them a customer for life. I recommend Overstock.com for better prices, better shipping costs. Barnes and Noble.com is much better for books, cds, etc.

I ordered a Garmin GPS from VibeCellular.com which is part of this amazon marketplace. When the order was placed I received an email that my order would ship within two day. I waited three days and heard nothing more from them so I tryed to call but of course they will not answer their phone. I emailed them and received an email back that I would be receiving my GPS on the following Tuesday. That Monday I received an email from them telling me my order was cancelled (the day before it was supposed to arrive).
I don't know how most of you feel about this sort of thing but I dislike being lied to and taken advantage of. I needed that GPS for a trip and they left me hanging and on my own to go out and buy one at a much higher price at the last minute.
I would never suggest anyone buy anything from VibeCellular and I hope they go out of business!

I have ordered a lot from amazon.com, and have recently been ordering from Amazon Marketplace sellers. My advice – DON’T! At least not from the 3rd party sellers. I have never had a problem ordering from amazon.com directly, but I recently received a defective product from a 3rd party seller and was told I had to pay for shipping to return it before I could get a replacement. I complained to amazon and they basically said too bad – "At this time, sellers do not have the ability to refund an Amazon Marketplace order for more than the original order total (cost of the item + the original shipping fee." If you don’t like to have to pay for defective merchandise, DO NOT order from an Amazon Marketplace seller.
This company never shipped the dethatcher and never responded to the several emails I sent. They have terrible/no customer service. I am very unsatisfied.

I love Amazon.com. Almost everything I buy online, either comes from Amazon or a clothes company... When you order something from Amazon, you know that you are not going to get cheated! I have shopped via Amazon for several years, both their online store and Marketplace and have never had a problem. Granted, my purchases were all books; however, even using Marketplace, I have not encountered any issues and have always had excellent service. As far as I am aware, the "free shipping" on orders over $25 were for qualifying items, which has always been stated on the item as, "this items qualifies for free shipping". Also it is good to remember, free shipping orders are low priority and may not be sent right away, and when they are shipped are usually sent USPS media mail, the cheapest and slowest form of shipping (sometimes up to 2 weeks). There were two times when the books I wanted were out of stock, both at Amazon and Marketplace, my credit card was not charged and they sent follow-up emails requesting if I still wanted the item. All in all, my experience has been excellent with Amazon. I have since joined their program and get my orders in 2 days via UPS.

In general, I've found Amazon to be just fine. However, I recently ordered from one of their partners UnbeatableSale and not had very good service.
The details are like many other stories: slow delivery, broken product, slow or no response to email, and no resolution. It often takes days to get a response via email ... often I get no response at all.
I'd also like to point out that this was sent as a gift and UnbeatableSale is requesting that recipient pay for return shipping. Their RMA does not cover shipping costs.
All in all ... something doesn't feel right about them. They have a good track record with other buyers ... but that's when things are working. Take care in doing business with them when things are not.

Amamzon Marketplace (jewlery section) acts as a monolpoy and only allows a few companies to sell there. They have a LLC that aproves the jewelry Marketplace sellers and if you dont have 2,000+ products they deny you. Now if you want to sell in other sections they let anyone sell.

I find online prices to be lower than local retailers. It's interesting to see the large price differences, even online, for the exact same product. Shipping is prompt but can sometimes add considerably to the cost of an item. I always check out free shipping options first.

As a potential future merchant. I signed on for Amazon's free trial for their merchant services. Finding that it was a bad match for my particular needs, I cancelled within the free window. I received a polite email stating that I would not be charged and thanks for trying, etc.
On my next statement, I was charged. Fine, these things happen. I wrote to Amazon, and to my credit card, the charge was removed. This was August.
In September, I was charged twice, and again in October.
I've written them again, but am scared to death, I'll have four charges in November.
Another dissatisfied customer here. I too bought a cell phone from Amazon which came with a $150 rebate.
I never received my rebate. Instead I received a form letter informing me that I had canceled my cell phone service and was therefore not eligible to receive the rebate. There customer service was predatory, and (to me) designed to run a customer around the system with the full intent of not coming through with a rebate.
It was rather fascinating how many ways Amazon was able to duck and refuse granting me my rebate due. Talk about a waste of time. It was maddening, and just to think about all the folks in the chain of Amazon customer support I talked to that are in essence a part of the Amazon scam tactics makes my skin crawl.

We are ebay sellers, and sell also at half com and alibris, so we are not newbies. amazon's alliance department is foaming at the mouth insane. there are many instances of mis representation, non delivery, and altogether poor management. it's about time people start a boycott of this poorest of the poor e sellers. in our case amazon is responsible for monetary damage in excess of $200 and we are seriously thinking of taking them to court!

One of the great aspects of the Amazon marketplace is the variety of merchandise available; you can find albums, books, movies; all kinds of things you've never heard of. However, this can be a pitfall -- as you navigate the site you may lose track of what it was you originally were looking for. I've got about fifty items in my shopping cart that I "want," but don't have the money for or I'm not sure about. It's very tempting.
That said, I've been very satisfied with about 95% of my Amazon orders, with speedy deliveries, very accurate orders, and good customer service.

I've been shopping at Amazon for a long time. This is the only site that I could trust since they rate the sellers. I have never had problems with them. Once the order did not arrive so I called and they reshipped another package to me. Within 2 days I received it. The quality of the shipped products is in excellent new condition. I'm happy with their service.
I've lost money at two separate marketplace stores, caimon and wicked wolf press. Caimon backordered the item until my time ran out, then ignored my many emails requesting status. Wicked Wolf Press put me on hold to "look into it" and I haven't heard back yet. Additionally, you pay up front, instead of when the product ships, but it takes longer for processing and shipping, yet you are still paying for 3 to 5 day shipping.
UPDATE: Since I put this opinion in place, Wicked Wolf Press made good on my order, so I've only lost money on Caimon now.

I placed an order for a book I needed for class. The statement at the bottom said "Usually ships in 10-12 days". I thought they were leaving themselves a wide window but it would probably arrive on time for class. That was Jan 12. Today is Jan 30 and I find out that they did not have it in stock and had to special order it. When I spoke to customer service I asked why the web site didn't tell me the book was not in stock and had to be special ordered. Their response, well it said 10-12 days for shipping. So, I was supposed to know that, right? If they can say that an item is in stock why can't they clearly say that it is not in stock and will have to be ordered? Put simply, marketing deception. I will avoid doing business with Amazon in the future and look to a company that has more integrity in dealing with customers.

Amazon is ingenious at manipulating orders, canceling orders, etc., to handle their own poor planning, and their customer service is non-existent. Don't rely on pre-ordering through them, and don't rely on them to deliver in time for any special event. I have bought toys, cds, text books(for grad school) and even sold my old text books on Amazon.com. It is a wonderful site. They ship quick and send emails relating the status of their shipping or a sellers shipping status. Very user friendly as well. I highly recommend Amazon.com.

I bought a PS3 slim off of Amazon Marketplace for $230 only to have the seller cancel my order the next day. The reason the e-mail listed was because the seller could not ship it to my address. I just bought something a week ago from Amazon and the seller had no problem shipping to my address. The real reason was because the seller did not like the price he sold it for so he canceled my payment and re-listed the item for $299. I called Amazon and they said because it was a Marketplace sale the only thing they could do was give me a $10 rebate. The problem is, because I thought I bought a PS3 Slim, I sold my original PS3 and now I have no PS3 at all. So now the seller gets to sell their item and gets no negative feedback or anything. It makes no sense that someone is able to sell an item and then cancel the sale because they aren't happy with the price they sold it for. I will no longer be doing any business with Amazon.

I find the order accuracy and delivery speed to be great. The DVDs have often come before the date stated they would be there. The website is also easy to use.
I have purchased hundreds of items from Amazon almost from the first day they opened on-line (back when they did books only). This year (2005) I did 95% of my Christmas shopping there over the course of several weeks. Everything I ordered was in stock, everything I ordered was delivered on time. This included books, perfumes, video games, tools, clothes and more. Never, ever had even one problem with anything I've ordered. I have purchased many books, as well as household items with no problems in quality or speed of delivery. I was most impressed with Amazon when the Surround Sound Head Phones set I purchased proved to be less than durable. The sound was terrific but the design was such that they were easily breakable in the recharging base. Amazon immediately sent me the replacement I asked for, at no charge. Then when it also broke, they took the set back (they paid shipping) and promptly refunded my money.
I recently attempted a purchase of a vacuum cleaner through one of the private Amazon vendors who claimed one in stock, and supposedly shipped prior to Christmas. However, subsequently received an e-mail that through no fault of their own ??? they had to back order. However, they were very apologetic and offered an immediate refund if I did not want to wait for a later shipment.

Back in October of 2005, I wanted to find a discontinued item (Fire+Ice Grill) and by miracle, I found in on Amazon. Regular price for this item was about $250... Amazon advertised it at $99! Wow! I purchased it, thinking this would be a great Christmas gift for my Father-In-Law. Here's where things start to SUCK!!!! I opted for the free delivery which I was told would be delivered on Dec 5, 2005. Well, on Dec 2nd, I got an email from Amazon stating that my order was cancelled because they could not get the item. Went to the Marketplace because of price - they advertised no tax and free shipping. After I had placed my order, but before hitting 'confirm' I noticed that they had slapped on a $20 fee for shipping which almost doubled the price. Needless to say, I didn't confirm and/or order. I doubt I'll waste any more time looking around here if that's a common practice.

There is no protection against fraudulent sellers sending messages that look as if they were coming from Amazon - payments are not accepted through amazon, but by Western Union!
MEGA STORE, litterally if you can't find it here it doesn't exisit. I order from AMAZON.com about every two weeks just cause other place simply dont' have what I'm looking for. Customer service takes time but speed and accuracy are prefect and beyond compare. They truly are the gold standard of online stores.

I have only one dealing with amazon. I bought a book from there a few years ago, and i must say the price was good the shipping rate was good and the speed of dilivery was fast ( i lived overseas on a small island of the coast of portugal ) and the book arived in less then a week.
my wife has ordered from there befor and she has never had any complaints

Checked some home office equipment and compared to dabs.com.
Found Amazon cheaper by 20 quid at least including delivery, so I ordered from Amazon - of course.
When I checked the confirmation email the next day, I saw my order had been split into 7, and also hat I was charged for EACH order. On investigating further I realised I was buying NOt from Amazon but other companies, which means I now have 7 reasons to complain !
If you are to order from Amazon, order it from ONE supplier only, or vbetter still DONT order anything from AMAZON. It was never clearly stated I would be charged for the additional shipping when I thought I was buying form one company - AMAZON.
When I called to coomplain, some pretty lady from the poor east tried desperately to communicate in American english and only ended confusing the issue as there was a communications gap (delay in the telephone call).
Be advised - DONT BUY FROM AMAZON - they are not as cheap as you may initially think.
I'll never buy from them again !! After researching available cellphone plans and the phones that I wanted, i decided to purchase from Amazon.com. Their deal was if I purchased two phones and a two year plan, I would receive a $150.00 mail-in rebate. I complied with every condition of their rebate requirements. After waiting 8 weeks and not receiving my rebate, I contacted them and was told that the rebates were taking longer than usual and not to worry and that I would receive the $150.00. After another 6 weeks, I called again and was told that I didn't meet the requirements. I asked what requirement didn't I meet. They said they didn't have that information available and that was all they could do. I often wonder how much money annually they cheat customers out of. 150.00 to one customer times the number of customers they have should make for a dandy profit. If I had the time, I would take this to the Attorney Generals fraud division.

I've bought three items through Amazon Marketplace, from 3 different sellers. I actually intended to buy another 3. Of the 3 I didn't buy, the items were out of stock, which I was only informed of after I paid for them. I got refunds, but having purchased from overseas, I lost twice on the exchange rates for the purchase and the refund.
Of the 3 I did buy through Amazon Marketplace, not one matched the description. CDs advertised as not being cutouts or review copies all had their covers punched, books advertised as new were library copies that were as old as the hills. One of the sellers was willing to offer a partial (but not full) refund. Others ignored my complaints.
These were six different merchants. Every one was a totally frustrating experience.
I only ever had one similar experience through eBay, and that was resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. I think sellers take the eBay rating system more seriously. it keeps them honest. Amazon Marketplace is a sleazy swap meet of bait-and-switch cheaters.

I ordered some items recently and compared them to dabs.com and found AMAZON to be cheaper including delivery - so I order the stuff from AMAZON.
Then I got the email showing my order was split into SEVEN orders, and each one had an individual shipping cost - taking the order to well over what I would have been charged from DABS.
This is outrageous! This individual shipping information was NOT clearly stated nor shown when I clicked on the OK to order.
DO NOT BUY FROM AMAZON - THEY may appear cheaper but you will be most UNpleasantly surprised.
The shopping experience turned out an expensive lesson too.
Then when I called AMAZON to discuss, I had a pretty lady from some poor eastern location (not Amazonian) trying desperately to speak American english and only succeeding in confusing herself.

It happened to me twice in the last few months. I would place an order with a seller on amazon market place and the seller would cancel the order with the excuse of "out of stock" while the item is still showing offered by the same seller on amazon at a much higher price. I filed a complaint with amazon.com and called customer service with no resolution. Amazon.com customer service said they can do nothing about it. The order even disappeared from my order history so I did not get a chance to leave an appropriate feedback. I think amazon.com is morally responsible for policing those sellers and making sure they do not cancel the order because they found out they can sell it for more while amazon.com allows them to continue listing it as in stock.
amazon has been a God send. even here in ca, it's difficult to find certain cds. when i move to salt lake city, i'm sure i will be using them even more. great selection (they need more imports). except for two times when my account got erased, the service has been great. 98% of all my orders were delivered and most within a week. a lot of fun to sit and put in names of musicians and see what comes up. even obscure ones.

I found a portable DVD player at much better price than anywhere else. The item description described perfectly what I was looking for. I received the product within five days of ordering. The product was brand new and packaged just as described. I would definitely order from this website again.

My three children recently received three $25 gift certificates. What does that mean to you at amazon? You know, when 90% of their items don't qualify for the "free shipping saver". It is really hard to explain to a seven year old that they only really have $12 because the rest has to go to shipping and handling. They spent the $75 (in one order) and paid $46 in shipping in total to four different merchants. Only one item qualified for "free" shipping. When they are being shipped from different sources you pay shipping to the individual supplier. Amazon is just another money grubbing middle man. Two items arrived in 3 days. One took 5 days. The last two weeks. Shipping time? Hard to judge and it's not like Amazon can fix it. They don't actually do anything, but take your money
MANUFACTURER MAY NOT HONOR WARRANTY ON ITEM PURCHASED FROM AMAZON: Do your research on every product, particularly about warranty. Many NEW products sold directly on Amazon Marketplace (not from a third party) are NOT honored for warranty by the manufacturer. Clarisonic is an example. You will get burned if you purchased such an item on Amazon. RETURN ITEM AND AMAZON WON'T REFUND claiming not item sent. We purchased DVD set sealed as a gift. We had to return the same set as person already had it. Amazon argued the item was not the one sent. Yes, in fact it was! Moreover, Amazon didn't bother to return that item back to you. Amazon wouldn't refund our money. They just kept the returned item AND our money! We had to fight it in court and with the credit card company for months to get the refund owed to us by Amazon. REFERRAL TRACKING doesn't always work. Finding out that referrals are not paid during system problems. This was verified to us. There is no level of trust with this entity. We do not shop with Amazon any longer.

I have had placed an order for Chamberlain garage door opener back in October 2005. Amazon was supposed to deliver by early November. Since, I only have received notes for delay, and yet again they delayed the delivery even further to back of January. There is no evidence that Amazon would ever have the item at hand, although it has been listed as in stock and delivery is estimated within two weeks. Simply, if they don't have it why they list? My suspicion is that since this item was originally ordered at a lower price, Amazon is intentionally delaying the delivery for those customers who had placed the order at a lower price to discourage them and have them cancel their order. Malicious tactic.
I ordered a Mcfarlane Sports Figure 2005(draft choice), and was shipped Randy Moss 2nd edition,....not what I ordered. Appears what was advertised one day, was advertised completely different the next day. They also advertised figures I ordered, to be shipped by the end of October 2005, then changed to January 2006......these same figures were selling in the stores in mid-Cotober.

I attempted to place an order with one of Amazon.com's Marketplace Stores. I put 14 toys in my cart totaling $100 and they were going to charge me almost $72 in shipping costs! It turns out that most of the stores at Amazon charge on a PER ITEM basis rather than a PER SHIPMENT basis. How do they legally get away with this consumer rip off? I called Amazon customer service and their only advice was to contact the seller directly. I don't think Amazon should let their sellers get away with this. Shame on you all!

shopping.com listed amazon marketplace with the best price for a Fellows P70CM shredder at 34.99 with free shipping. i went to the site and went thru the ordering process up to the point where they wanted to add 10.99 for shipping and handling. they said i didn't qualify for free shipping because it was being shipped by a 3rd-party vendor. what a ripoff.
So I bought a Samsung A900 from Amazon. They had a great deal where the phone would be free after rebate, excellent. But when I tried to activate the phone, Sprint said the serial number is from that of a stolen phone!! It seems Amazon is doing shady deals behind the scenes. I walked into a Sprint store to activate the phone and they wanted to hold me there for further questioning!!! So embarassing! Amazon is the absolute worst place to shop. Do not shop there, please.

Looking for particular books used to be a problem for me I could never find what I wanted in the shops. Now I generally only use Amazon to purchase books. It is the most convenient and easy way to shop for books.
They have an excellent search facility that allows me to find even the most obscure titles at a reasonable price quickly and easily. They sell both first hand and second hand books but even the second hand books I received were always in excellent condition. They have a very prompt delivery service and I have never had any problems with my orders.
Overall I would definitely recommend Amazon as being a highly competent and efficient company.

Amazon really sucks. I am their registered customer, but I just spent one and a half hours trying to sned ONE order. They set you up on an infinite do-loop, and keep changing my order. There is no way to contact customer service - not an email address, not a phone number. The so-called help line is not helpful I will never use them again. Order accuracy is non existent, there is no customer service, and overall satisfaction is zero.

Placed order for a Boss MR2080W marine stereo unit that is sold through Gizmosforlife.com. I also called the vendor to confirm some product details. When I placed the actual order on the website a Boss MR1600W was substituted. I discovered the change when sharing the information with a friend who was interested in a similar unit. The same switch was made when he was placing an order. I was able to cancel the order and purchase the desired product from another vendor. I'm not sure whether this switch is intentional but it needs to be corrected to ensure no unpleasant surprises for future buyers.

A lot of these testimonials I've read greatly contradict my experiences with Amazon. Some of these folks are trying to say that Amazon is the culmination of all that is bad and unjust in this world. I just dont get it...Anyone who thinks they're customer service is 'bad', isn't dialing the right 800 number(800-201-7575). Over the past 2 years I've probably called amazon 20 or more times reguarding purchases I've made...not once did I wait more than a minute before I was speaking to a real live human who would change and cancel orders, or help sort out any issue I came up with.
...Something makes me think we have some sponsored Amazon haters creepin' around...

I ordered 2 videos (monday) from an Amazon store, newtown videos, only to be issued a partial refund the very next day (tuesday). On that very same tuesday, I called to find out what was going on. The store apparently did not have the item to ship out in the first place. When I got in touch with some one in Amazon's customer service,she and her "manager" seem to have a very heavy indian accent, making it extremely difficult to understand exactly what they were trying to get me to agree to. Eventually I discovered they were trying to issue a promotional gift card to me instead of my money. I did not agree. Then I was informed that I would have to wait approximately a month until the estimated delivery date had gone by before I could file a claim to recieve my money back. I'm currently waiting, but this is NOT good business. I will never ever do business with Amazon again. I cannot STAND these companys who are outsourcing thier customer service to other countries, to save money and skimp on customer service.

Ordered (or tried to) some 2-way radios from them. Items showed as being in stock, so I placed an order. An hour later I receive an email telling me that my order was cancelled.. no explanation.. just that it was cancelled. This was directly through a subsidiary of Amazon, not a private seller. A few days later it still showed as in stock, so I placed another order with the same results... cancelled. Even now it shows as being in stock. Had never ordered from them before, but now I wouldn't trust them. Looks too much like a bait and switch (the radio was listed for sale for $94, but offered for no less than $158 any where else).
The people who give amazon bad ratings are big babies. Amazon goes out of their way to please people. these people who complain...do they even try calling Amazon to see what they can do about their problems? Its like these people expect perfection. Out of the hundreds of times I have bought things their Ive had MAYBE two small problems. Its worth any small hassle for the great price AND the great customer service. I think bad raters just want to take out their frustrations on someone and Amazon is just there. They dont see what an asset amazon is in the United states and just how Amazing that operation truly is.
I have dealt with Amazon before and had a terrible experience buying books. I paid for the books and then never received it, and it was a nightmare trying to get my money back. I bought them in August as a Christmas present ($700 dollars worth of text books for my fiance for next semester) and did not receive them in time for Christmas. Once it got close to Christmas and still had not received the books, I pannicked. I bought them on www. barnesandnoble.com and received them in no time at all, and would probably continue to use Barnes and Noble for future book purchases. They are dependable, I've found. Today I bought a $10 item on Amazon only because I can't find it anywhere else. I have used Ebay and have been extremely happy with it compared to Amazon. After seeing all the other unhappy people here, i wonder why the Better Business Bureau or some other instutition hasn't straightened this out yet. I spent $10 here today and figure if it doesn't work out, then atleast I only lost 10 bucks. Personally, I would not recommend Amazon.

There is another way by disputing the charge on your credit card until they credit your account via the credit card. I had the same problem with Six Week Body Makeover and it took one and one-half years to get it straightened out. While in dispute the credit card company cannot charge late charges or interest regarding the dispute. I hope this helps.
