Furniture from JC Penney is a risky purchase. You might not get it!!!

In the fall of 2005, I ordered an Embarkation dining set via phone with a store salesman and ordered the sideboard through the catalog. I was told the set would arrive one week in October and they called to deliver it 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Since I knew I was also expecting a sideboard I wanted to wait to have it and the set delivered on the same day. The following week I received a message informing me that the dining set was discontinued. This didn't make me happy especially since this was shortly before Thanksgiving. The following week, JC Penney let me know they would be able to deliver my sideboard. I informed them that since I was unable to receive the table and chairs that would not do me any good.
Noone did anything soften this blow. I wasn't offered another set as a substitute or a discount on another set.

Buying a Mattress in store?? BUYER BEWARE

Never will do business with JC Penny gain. Bought a mattress at the store. Was delivered to my house. Laid in it first night and it was like sleeping in a bean bag. Long story short, you get a 45 day satisfaction guaranteed but if you reselect a new mattress you pay delivery and 10%. We didn't feel we should pay 10% for a bad mattress so we had a warranty kit sent to house and then a technician came out and it was deemed that box springs are defective. Now we can only get new box springs and we cant reselect new mattress because all this took longer than 45 days. I offered to pay for delivery and extra money to take mattress back and be finished with JC Penny and they wont accept. Customer service is TERRIBLE!

I recently ordered almost $1000 in bedding for furniture I had just purchased for my three daughters. Comforters, sheets, curtains, pillows, lamps...the works. The children were able to look at the catalog and pick just what they wanted in their "new rooms". Everything was shipped on time and I received everything I ordered the first time. A couple of years ago, I ordered my step-daughter's bed from them and it too arrived with no problem. I have been shopping at Penney's, in-store, from their catalog, and now online, for years and have had no real problems to speak of. If I have to return something, there is no hassle and the employees I have dealt with have been most helpful.

I think what we see here is a classic case of how only people with gripes speak up. I want to be counted as a long-standing and consistently satisfied customer.

I ordered a VCR online, which I was not satisfied with and ended up returning. Luckily, the return experience was a breeze--I was able to take the item back to the store so I did not have to pay return postage, and when I explained I did not like the recording quality, the employee credited me back the full amount, including shipping, which I thought was going the extra step.

Ordering online was easy. The item arrived quickly and was well packed and not damaged. Their search function was a little awkward, dividing things into multiple categories instead of just listing everything. This meant you could waste time seeing the same item repeatedly in different categories. However, I would definitely order online again.

These people are nuts! They recently sent an advertisement to me asking me to shop online, in store, or over the phone. Looking at the catalog, I found a nice pair of Haggar Dress trousers that were advertised for being on sale for $16.99. Guess what was the price online? $60! These folks need to get with the program!

I have shopped with Penney's many times, mainly for clothes for my son. They are the only ones who can fit him for jeans. I have always received my orders on time, exactly as ordered. Whenever I have had to return something, I return it to the store and my card is credited with no questions. I will continue to shop with them.

J C Penney's is deceptive because of its coupon redemption procedure. You don't find out until the order is placed the coupon won't work. Or if it does work they might take it away later. I had a coupon which they disallowed later but said they would give me a free shipping adjustment if I could find the code. When I found the code they said they didn't know anything about it. So I emailed back and forth with them wherein they said they would adjust it after I proved it but then the next person said they knew nothing about it. Back and forth it went, it was ridiculous what they put me through for the dumb shipping charge. I cancelled my account with them and through away my card. Now I am getting late fees etc. because I refuse to pay it and my account is in ridiculous order. I am getting late fees and it has now been so long since this happened but they still will not listen to reason but want me to send them more information when I have already spent more time on this then the stupid charge was worth.

Be careful ordering an item from the JCPenney catalog. If you have to return the item you will still be responsible for the shipping and handling charges, which can be 15% even if picked up at the store. I learned this lesson the hard way.

Customer Service-catalog price did not match online price-a rude customer service rep told me I had ordered from an old catalog, and I was looking directly at Early Fall Catalog 2007 and carefully checked the item number & price. She went on to tell me that the computer systems were down and that was why the price was not correct. She told me if I completed the order, I would be informed of the problem. I went back online to complete the order - no information of a computer problem. The higher price would have been charged to me by JCP-I think that is close to fraud. This the the fourth similar experience with JCP.com-I only tried again because of a birthday offer of $15 off. JCP has the worst online shopping and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I received my items in a timely manner and no complaints about the shipping or accuracy of the order. I ordered online so I didn't have to deal with customer service. However, my complaint is about the quality of the product I received. The $100+ comforter I purchased is made of such poor quality material (very thin) that is has began to tear in various places exposing the cotton filling. It was definitely not worth the money and I would never buy any bedding from them again.

First off, why would you buy FURNITURE online? You get what you deserve if it's not what you want. That's like buying a car online. Anyway, all I buy from JCPenney online or in-store is clothing, and have never been disappointed. The stuff always ships on time and gets here promptly and unlike a lot of other stores I've ordered from, they not only give you a tracking number but you can actually check it for up-to-the-second delivery status, whereas a lot of places give you a tracking number but it's never updated, it tells you when it ships and arrives to you, which you already know obviously, and that is it. This is a shipper issue, not a store issue, but still...JCPenney has NEVER had this problem. The clothing is always high quality to boot.

Frustrating and Disturbing

I have had a couple of disturbing experiences with JC Penney, where they have ruined my order and than told me I had have had to wait for my money to be refunded. Both times it was only resolved after I threatened a lawsuit. Since earlier this year I've simply decided not to order from them again. The quality of their items is mediocre a best, but if you really must, purchase from the store and make sure you can return it for a FULL refund. Watch your back with this company. They operate in a "shady" manner.

I have ordered furniture three times from JCPenney.com and have been extremely pleased with the quality and service. Since we live in Fairbanks, Alaska, imagine my delight having the furnitures - dining chairs, sectional pieces and ottoman arrive within TWO WEEKS of placing the orders. That is a lot quicker than other smaller items things I have ordered online with other companies!! The shipping cost is reasonable and delivered to our door as we live out of town - Alaska is very "spread out". For sure I will continue to purchase online from JC Penney for my other household furnishing needs as the quality, prices and shipping costs are reasonable. For similar quality, it cost me less to purchase online than in town.

Never, Never Order Furniture from JCP

If only I had read the reviews BEFORE attempting to buy furniture from JC Penney online. My experience was the WORST I have ever had. After sleeping on an air bed for three weeks in our new house, the furniture arrived. We ordered the Sutton bedroom group in Cognac. Where to begin with the carnage...

The mattress had 7 holes punched in the back of it and was covered in an oily black dust.

The box spring looked like it had been run through a wood chipper and the corners were mangled.

The dresser was split in three places along the back.

The mirror. Oh, the mirror. Let's just say that beyond there being shattered mirror pieces in the box, one would never have guessed that it was an actual piece of furniture that was supposed to attach to the dresser.

Needless to say, we cancelled our back ordered entertainment armoire and have contacted customer service to have all this hauled away and our account credited. We'll see if that process goes any smoother. No one has responded to my initial call yet.

My order was delayed by two days. Order placed on 15th of Dec.; sent to Fed. X on the 17th. Cked for delivery date/time on 12/21; found that order due to be delivered on 12/24. Rec'd on 12/26. I was disappointed that I did not have the merchandise promised for my teenage son and I rec'd no info telling me of the delay which I would have appreciated. Otherwise, everything went well.

JC Penney's web site if easy to navigate. Their merchandise quality is dependable. Generally clothing is true to size. Returns are easy. Shipping takes a while, but arrival has always been as promised.

i received the items as ordered, however the fabric did not match in color or texture to what was pictured online. also, the item was listed as fitting a decorative rod, which was part of the reason i ordered these curtains. these curtains did not fit my decorative rods. i had to return the items because of this, and was unable to get a refund on shipping and handling. when it was pointed out to the associate that there was no way for me to know they did not fit without them actually being shipped to me, why was i responsible for shipping and handling. associate was unconcerned. jcpenney was also contacted regarding this issue, asked them to encure greater specifics online, as it cost me $20 to find out that the curtains were not at all as pictured. i will not be purchasing again, i will now only purchase from in stock merchandise, and jcpenney will be a last resort, as they have stolen $20 of my money for an item grossly misrepresented
