| PunkiePeanut's Full Review: Weight Watchers Winning Points |
The reason I started at Weight Watchers was just like everyone else's reason. I was over weight. I just had a baby and was determined to somehow get back into shape. I knew I would never be the pre-pregnancy shape, but I would settle for close. I gained a whopping 50 pounds during the pregnancy and only lost 10 with the delivery. You do the math.
One day I was talking with a good friend of mine, who also had a baby six months prior to mine, and we decided to do it together. So we called up Weight Watchers at
1-800-651-6000 and inquired about the nearest meeting place. You may also find this information on the web at WEIGHTWATCHERS.COM by just typing in your zip code. **(If you want to look anything up at that site such as recipes, you must join for a monthly fee online, if not, you are allowed to inquire about meeting sites.)
**FIRST MEETING**
At the first meeting, you listen to a great motivational weight watchers associate and she or he talks for about 45 minutes about different ways to curve your appetite. After the first meeting, the new members are asked to stay for a one-on-one type of consultation. At this time, the instructor goes over the point system with you, explains how to calculate points for everything you want to eat, and then goes over how you would record it in your weekly journal.
You can eat anything you want, but just remember, everything is worth a certain "point" value. It is very easy to figure points out after a while. You are given a point value packet with an instrument that helps you tally up your points for a certain meal, snack, or anything you choose to eat. The only information you need is the calories per serving, the fat grams, and the fiber. With that information, you are able to find the point value. Depending on your weight and height, you are allowed a certain amount of points per day. It is hard at the beginning to eat three to five times a day, but I got used to it. I only usually ate lunch and dinner with some snacks in between. I was told that I wasn't eating enough. Do you believe that? How can they tell me I was not eating enough? Enough of the right foods. I also, did not drink a lot of water. You must drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. This really helps shed the pounds, I don't know how or why, but I know that if I didn't have enough water one week, I didn't lose as much weight.
So, I began to go the the super market and buy a bunch of Weight Watcher frozen dinners because they were all portioned out and easy to just grab. I ate frozen dinners for the first month or so, just so I learned what a portion is. I used to think a portion was how much you could fit on the plate. Wrong. This program tells you exactly what to eat and the amount you can have. You need a strong will in order for this "portion control" exercise to work. Don't call it a diet.
You weigh in every week and you are given a weight loss booklet to bring with you every week to keep track of your weight loss. You also get booklets for every week that include different recipes and different "point" foods. You get a paper ribbon for losing the first five pounds and then you get a sticker for every five pounds lost after that. These are given out at the end of every meeting and your name is called and your total weight loss is announced (NOT YOUR WEIGHT). It makes you feel good, because people clap for you and encourage you to do better. When you lose 10% of your body weight, you get a key chain and you move onto the next part of Weight Watchers, which is your goal weight. Once you reach your goal weight you get a star charm to attach to your key chain. You then must maintain your goal weight for six weeks. If you do that, then you are then a life time member of Weight Watchers, and do not need to pay your weekly fee, unless you go two pounds over your goal weight, and you get a small key to put on your key chain.
The program is great. I encouraged a co-worker to join and she has lost 80 pounds so far. They also have weight watchers at work meetings where they come to your work place. You must have at least 20 people for this meeting to occur at your place of business.
I hope I have given you a good review on the weight watchers program. I hope you try it if you are in need of some change in eating habits. Don't think of it as a diet, think of it as eating healthier portions. It's all about how you feel. You can eat anything you want. Just make sure you write everything down. GOOD LUCK.
