I am a serious rider, currently I have ridden 21,000 miles in just over 2 years. I was looking to move up to my second bike. I wanted a good reliable cruiser, and it had to be a V-Twin.
The dealer showed me the various models, but the spirit seemed to be the one that was the overlooked classic. The ACE models have an engine that sound similar to a Harley. The Spirit has a double pin crank, and it sounds good, but not like a Harley, the upside is it has more horsepower than the ACE.
The Shadow Spirit is made in America at the Honda Marysville Indiana plant, an it has the classic styling of an American cruiser. The Forward controls, mini ape hangers, stepped seat, and little sissy bar give it that rough and ready, easy to customize, cruiser style.
I've rented a Harley Dyna Wide Glide, and the ride is very similar. The throttle is very responsive, the pegs and pipes high enough to allow aggressive cornering, the brakes are great, partially due to the fat the front tire has a good contact patch, and the rear tire is HUGE, like some crotch rocket tire.
I have over 12,000 miles on this bike, and I would never think of parting with it. This is a great bike, perfect for the rider with confidence and solid skills who is ready to move up to a big bike. The price is even reasonable, usually less than a Honda ACE.
