| woodark4_1's Full Review: 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 LTD |
I am just getting back into riding after some 40 years. Obviously, motorcycles have changed somewhat in that period of time. My interest was re-kindled after riding my son in law's Triumph Legend 900cc three cylinder which I rapidly discovered was a little more reintroduction than I was prepared to handle comfortably. I'm not interested in a big, heavy thumper to cruise across the plains at 80 mph all day. I just want something reliable to ride back on forth to work on pretty days and 200 mile day trips are about my limit. This is not my primary means of transportation and that's why I feel the Vulcan 500 LTD is the perfect bike for me at this stage. I'm 58, 5' 10", 185 lb and the 450 lb weight is easy enough to muscle around where necessary. Speaking of muscle, this 500cc has plenty! Although we certainly were not racing, I just completed a 200 mile ride with 5 guys and one girl on Harleys (including Sportsters and one V-Rod) They began the ride looking at me and my bike as if I were some sort of communist but were displaying a genuine respect for the little Kaw. by the time it was over. I have nearly 900 miles on it now and have not had it over 70 mph but, believe me, there is lots of throttle left at that speed. I love the acceleration...The engine loves to rev. and sounds like it! It's also a very good looking bike and 53 mpg sure beats my pick up!
