| talyseon's Full Review: [2] Magazine |
[2] Warning: This review is of an adult theme magazine. Further, it is of a Gay Adult themed Magazine. If this is not your cup of tea, well, you have been warned.
Sex is fun in almost all its permutations, and while it is most people's favorite sport, it does lend itself to spectators. However, there are only so many ways a gym body buff, tanned hot looking man can stand, or lie there or lounge on furniture, cars or machinery. There are variations of size, colouring, build, and endowment but after awhile, it begins to wear thin. After awhile, beefcake gets boring.
That is where [2] comes in. Instead of one hot and hunky naked man, you get two! Hence, the name. And in sex, one plus one equals a whole lot more! Non hardcore, [2] strives to capture the passion, heat and fun between their models. And they run the gamut from porn stars to hard hairy biker types, and most everything between. There are usually about five couples per issue, and they strive to throw in a variety of types from preppy to the sort of boys you wouldn't leave in the room with your wallet. They go from sweet eighteen, with proof on file, to buff hard bodied daddy types. From Blue Collar, to Suits and Ties, and fantasies from Policemen to Pizza delivery boys.
The one consistent thing is there are two men, and they are enjoying what they are doing. It depicts sex in a positive light and makes no apologies for the fact there are two men together. They work to capture the chemistry and sense of play and exploration between the models.
The photography is usually excellent; there is of course a certain amount of staging. Like I said, it is not hardcore, so they can't just yell "Come and Get It!" and start clicking away. But the photographers have a good grasp of light and shadow, composition, and anatomy, and strive to make every shot interesting from a purely artistic standpoint.
The writing...well, you don't read it for the writing, but each pictorial comes with a little back-story.
There is also a spread by an established photographer, and then a section called Being[2]gether, where a real life couple talks about their relationship, how they met, and what their life is like, how they make the relationship work.
The Details The magazine is published six times a year. With a cover price of $10.00, that runs into some money. A subscription rarely dips below $39.95; they don't have to discount; they got the real goods. However, they do occasionally run a special where you can give a gift subscription for half price. I recommend this for several different reasons, not the least of which is the thank you....
You can order your subscription online at http://www.2mag.net/index.asp. I mean, in the end it comes down to simple mathematics, why would you buy a magazine with just one stud per page when you can have [2]?
