Pros: many features, attractive casing, durability, decent battery life
Cons: lack of radio, increasingly long scan times, easy-to-dirty lens
The Bottom Line: Great if you're not going to be that rough with it. If you are, you might want to look into a Sony.

| aeoliancadence's Full Review: Philips AZ9104 Personal CD Player |
I first got Philips AZ9104 as a birthday present in August 2000. It was my third Philips CD player (the first eventually went bad, and the second got stolen). I've come to really appreciate the Philips players for their durability and strong feature system, but this CD player has recently taken a turn for the worse.
The reason I had to replace my first Philips CD player was the it started taking forever to scan and making funny noises after about a year. I'm pretty rough with my CD player, but not horribly so -- it's usually used for long car trips, bus rides, etc. In the last month or so, it's begun doing it again. Usually drops did nothing, but now they're making the entire lens system inside the player pop up and down until I take the batteries out. It takes forever to scan CD-Rs and CD-RWs, and it's taking awhile for regular CDs, too.
Before now, it was great. The bass boost is fabulous and the sound is wonderful. The skip protection is WONDERFUL. If you live in Pennsylvania, you know how horrible the roads are, and I can only remember an instance or two in the past year when it's skipped. The earphones that came with it were also wonderful; I've been looking for replacement everywhere since my kitten chewed the wiring up.
All in all, though, be prepared for your CD player to eventually fail. Most of my Philips have been great for the first year or so, then gradually begun to get worse and worse. Buy at your own risk.
