Motorola quality, but you pay for it!

Pros: Clear reception, long battery life, durable/strong casing, sturdy antenna, easy-to-use
Cons: somewhat bulky, expensive compared to competitor's radios
The Bottom Line: These are great radios if you can afford them. You can expect clarity, durability, simplicity, and several fun/helpful times communicating

I bought my Talkabouts over two years ago (shortly after they first came out) for about $190 a pair! At the time I thought they were worth it (and indeed they were). I bought them mainly for hunting, camping, and fishing trips. Consequently they have been used quite frequently in these activities. Another great use has been during road trips with multiple vehicles (which can be quite entertaining at times).
I have never had a problem with reception, but note that most of my use has been in rural environments in the midwest. Occasionally on the highways I've picked up some other strange signals, but nothing to complain about.
I've always wanted to buy the voice-activated microphone/earpieces for the exciting hunting moments when your hands aren't available for the Talkabout (it would be just like talking to your buddies even though they are hundreds of yards away).
If I were going to buy more 2-way radios, I'd shop the market. The price on these things has dropped dramatacally (not necessarily so on the Motorolas). I've seen SWBell 2-way radios for as low as $50.00 a pair. A friend purchased these and they work well also - it's nice that they also 'communicate' with my Motorola Talkabouts. I'm a bit jealous that he saved so much money. However, the casing of the SWBell units doesn't seem as durable/impact-resistant as my Motorolas.
