Pros: Space-saving combo unit for both VHS tapes and DVD
Cons: Needs tracking adjustment when playing VHS tapes recorded from another VCR
The Bottom Line: I recommend this unit to anyone who has a large VHS Collection and wants to start a DVD collection....and anyone who only has space for one unit and not two

When my Panasonic VCR started to show signs of wear & tear, I decided that it was time to bring myself into the new Millennium and get a DVD player...however, I have thousands of VHS tapes which I can't just throw away....and my entertainment wall unit only has one shelf above the TV, for one unit...not two...what to do ?? I figured there has to be a combination unit out there somewhere, I cannot be the only person in the world with this problem. So I hit the Internet shopping sites and the electronic stores, and discovered there are only three combo units out there...one from " GO-GO VIDEO " which is cumbersome and ugly, one from Panasonic which was too expensive, and one from Samsung, which the three little bears would say is " just right " !
I bought it at P.C. RICHARDS for $299.99. I hired an electronic serviceman to install it for me, so I can't comment on its ease of assembly, but I can testify that both VHS and DVD plays beautifully, and it has a universal remote that controls both the Samsung and the TV. THE ONLY DRAWBACK is that when you play a VHS tape that was recorded on another VCR (which of course you will be, since this unit is replacing your prior VCR), it is all static with those flickering white lines until the tracking graph comes on to clear it....and sometimes it doesn't come on, which is annoying...you really have to keep the instruction book nearby...I still am trying to figure out why the tracking graph comes on and sometimes does not....where's that trouble shooting section ??
