| brian100's Full Review: Teac R-H300 Dual Cassette Deck |
I bought the H300 deck mainly because it's small enough to fit where I wanted to put it. It is also one of the sharpest looking cassette decks I have ever seen. This unit is about half the width of a conventional deck. It is housed in a sturdy metal case. As far as I can tell, it has all the features and specs of the slightly larger and more expensive H500 deck, except for no record bias knob. You do get full auto reverse for both recording and playback. You also get Dolby B&C, auto tape type-selection and a sharp, easy-to-read bar segment display. Unfortunately, the record level knob controls both channels - you can't adjust the right or left levels individually. Also, the 40-14kHz response using standard tape is adequate, but not great. I especially miss the response down to 20 Hz which my other deck has. The wow and flutter spec of 0.15% is not too great, although I can't say that it has affected my listening pleasure. This unit can be remote-controlled if you connect it to a compatible TEAC receiver or amplifier. There is no stand-alone remote capability. For the price, you can get a better sounding dual-well cassette deck from the other big hi-fi companies. The small size and looks are what makes this single cassette unit unique.
